Overview

Are you energized by complex data challenges and motivated to outsmart fraud using advanced analytics? We're adding a Data Scientist - Digital Forensics to our team to help develop and refine the machine learning models that detect emerging fraud risks and protect our organization.

In this role, you'll work with large, complex datasets, build and optimize predictive models, collaborate with investigators and business partners, and continuously evolve our fraud detection capabilities. What You Do
  • Develop and implement advanced analytics techniques, including machine learning algorithms and predictive models, to assess fraud risk.
  • Combine, interpret, and analyze highly complex data from multiple sources to uncover patterns, anomalies, and risk indicators.
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts, Data Analysts, and cross‑functional partners to understand requirements, validate models, and support decision‑making.
  • Continuously improve processes, algorithms, and models based on operational changes, investigator feedback, and emerging fraud trends.
  • Monitor for new fraud risks and build or update models to stay ahead of evolving threats.
  • Maintain thorough documentation for workflows, models, algorithms, databases, and code repositories.
  • Ensure compliance with privacy, security, and data protection standards.
What You Bring
  • Education or equivalent experience in data science, analytics, statistics, engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience applying data science and machine learning in real‑world environments.
  • Background working with federal contracts or government‑regulated datasets is considered a significant advantage.
  • Proficiency in Python or R, SQL, Git/GitHub, and data visualization tools such as Power BI, or willingness to learn.
  • Professional certifications in data science or programming (Microsoft, Google, IBM, etc.) are considered an asset.
  • Strong communication skills—able to present complex information clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • A highly analytical mindset with the ability to independently interpret data, identify relationships, and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Strong time‑management skills with the ability to prioritize, organize, and act with appropriate urgency.
  • English fluency; French is considered an asset.
  • Security Clearance Requirement: In conjunction with our contract with the Federal Government, you will be required to have Reliability Status Clearance (Enhanced Level B). This includes Fingerprinting, Criminal Record Check, Credit Check and you must have resided in Canada for at least 5 years and hold Permanent Resident or Citizenship Status.
Pay Range

88,158 - 99,177 CAD

The Base Pay range may vary depending on the successful candidate or other relevant job‑related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience and education/training. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Medavie employees may participate in various performance‑based incentive programs. Payments under these programs are discretionary and subject to both individual and organizational results.
