At Intralot Canada we're transforming the gaming industry with scalable, reliable, and cutting‑edge systems. Here’s your chance to make a difference and grow with a dynamic team that thrives on innovation and collaboration

Your Role:

As a Data Cloud Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for the day‑to‑day operation, stability, and continuous improvement of existing database platforms running on AWS. You will ensure databases remain secure, highly available, performant, and recoverable, supporting production workloads and business‑critical applications.

This role focuses on operational excellence, troubleshooting, automation, and incremental optimization, working closely with DevOps, Platform, and application teams.

🛠️ Operate & Support Existing AWS Databases
  • Support and maintain production databases running on Amazon RDS, Aurora, and self‑managed databases on EC2.
  • Ensure database availability, integrity, and performance across multiple environments.
  • Respond to database‑related incidents, alerts, and service degradations.
🔍 Monitor, Troubleshoot & Optimize Performance
  • Monitor database health, performance, capacity, and replication using CloudWatch, Performance Insights, and native database tools.
  • Diagnose and resolve performance issues such as slow queries, locking, resource contention, and replication lag.
  • Perform capacity planning and proactive tuning.
🔐 Security, Backup & Data Protection
  • Enforce database security best practices (access controls, encryption at rest/in transit, credential management).
  • Manage and validate backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Support compliance, audit, and data protection requirements.
⚙️ Automation & Infrastructure as Code (Incremental)
  • Maintain and improve database provisioning and configuration using Infrastructure as Code where applicable (Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Automate routine DBA tasks such as backups, patching coordination, health checks, and reporting.
  • Reduce manual operations while ensuring operational safety.
📈 Change Management & Upgrades
  • Plan and execute database upgrades, patching, and configuration changes with minimal service disruption.
  • Coordinate changes with application, DevOps, and platform teams.
  • Participate in release planning and change control processes.
📚 Documentation & Operational Hygiene
  • Maintain accurate database documentation, schemas, runbooks, and recovery procedures.
  • Ensure operational standards and best practices are documented and followed.
  • Perform housekeeping activities to keep environments clean and supportable.
🤝 Collaborate Across Teams
  • Work closely with application developers to support schema changes, query optimization, and release readiness.
  • Partner with DevOps and Platform teams on availability, automation, and monitoring improvements.
  • Provide database expertise during incidents and post‑incident reviews.
What You’ll Bring
🎓 Education & Experience
  • A College Degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in Database Administration supporting production systems.
🔧 Technical Skills (AWS‑Focused)
  • AWS Databases: Amazon RDS, Aurora (MySQL/PostgreSQL), self‑managed DBs on EC2.
  • Database Engines: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server (one or more).
  • Monitoring & Performance: CloudWatch, Performance Insights, query analysis tools.
  • Backup & Recovery: Automated backups, snapshots, point‑in‑time recovery, DR testing.
  • Security: IAM integration, encryption, secrets management.
  • Automation & IaC: Terraform / CloudFormation exposure preferred.
🧠 Mindset & Working Style
  • Operations‑driven with strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Detail‑oriented and reliability‑focused.
  • Comfortable supporting existing/legacy database environments.
  • Automation‑minded and improvement‑oriented.
  • Clear communicator with a documentation‑first mindset.
