Job summary

A community social services department in Quebec is seeking a Cultural Educator/Male Mentor to aid the development of parenting skills, self-esteem, and to provide support for youth. Job description

Title: Cultural Educator/Male Mentor

Start Date: February 2026

Term: Fulltime

Accountable to: Listuguj Community Social Services Directorate

Summary of Function

To assist the development of parental skills, life skills, self‑esteem, advocacy and access resources in the community while providing support and guidance through activities that nurture safety, growth, and learning. The Cultural Educator will possess the ability to follow‑up, support, and offer mentorship to identified youth and families. Maintain respect for confidentiality to the family, and the Families First Support Services Program.

Job Duties
  • Build and maintain positive supportive relationship with youth/family as assigned.
  • Participate fully as a member of the case management team for each youth/family assigned.
  • Develop and implement culturally relevant intervention plans within program guidelines in consultation with other members of the case management team/supervisor.
  • Provide individual and/or group programming aimed at addressing youth issues/needs such as communication skills, anger management, conflict resolution and problem solving using a strengths‑based model that are culturally appropriate.
  • Provide youth with opportunities to access community resources as required.
  • Facilitate the self‑development and skill development of youth by identifying, recruiting and developing culturally appropriate resources and supporting youth participation in developmental activities: i.e. life skills, work placement, traditions and ceremony, academic study, and community services.
  • Report to the Clinical Supervisor, facilitate open communication within the case management team, contribute to regular reporting procedures, including ongoing case notes, incident reports, monthly progress statistical reports.
  • Attend meetings as required by Families First Support Services and represent FFSS as a positive ambassador.
  • Manage/balance on‑site petty cash as pertained to youth programming as delegated.

Requirements
  • College diploma in early childhood education or related field will be considered, or suitable combination of education, work experience, and caregiver experience may be considered.
  • Must have social and professional experience in First Nations communities, preferably be able to communicate in the Mi’gmaq language, or willing to learn.
  • Must have knowledge and be able to apply traditional/cultural practices such as Healing Circles and smudging.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to safe, reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background/Vulnerable Sector check.
