Job description

At 4AG Robotics, we build robots that harvest mushrooms-and we’re growing fast. Our team thrives at the intersection of agriculture and automation, combining hands-on grit with cutting-edge technology. If you’re energized by solving real-world problems, owning your work, and using AI to do things better and faster, this is your kind of place.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Controls Electrical Engineer who will take ownership of the industrial electrical backbone of our robots. As our technology moves from prototypes into scaled production, this role ensures our machines meet rigorous safety and reliability standards, while being designed for efficient manufacturing and serviceability.

This is a unique opportunity to design control panels and electrical systems for cutting-edge robotic harvesters that are already transforming agriculture. You’ll bring strong expertise in electrical codes, schematics, and component selection to build systems that don’t just work in the lab—they perform reliably in real farm environments.

Your work will directly enable the safe and scalable deployment of robots that solve critical labor challenges and drive a more sustainable food future.

What You'll Do

  • Design and detail electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layouts for robotic machinery.
  • Lead the design and build of industrial control panels, ensuring compliance withCSA, UL, CE, and other applicable electrical codes and standards.
  • Select and specify components (breakers, relays, servo drives, sensors, safety devices, etc.) appropriate for industrial environments.
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing and suppliers to optimize panel design for build efficiency and serviceability.
  • Work with customers and contractors to ensure smooth installation and integration of robotic equipment in their facilities.
  • Perform hands-on panel building, wiring, and testing when needed.
  • Support PLC/HMI integration with hardware and ensure proper communication between devices.
  • Create and maintain electrical documentation and BOMs for production.
  • Participate in risk assessments and ensure machine safety compliance.
  • Provide troubleshooting and support during machine builds, installations, and field deployment (occasional travel required).

What Success Looks Like

  • First 3 months: You’ve become familiar with our current robots and electrical systems, contributed to panel builds, and participated in design reviews with a strong eye for code compliance and safety.
  • 6 months: You’re independently producing schematics, designing panels, and overseeing builds that are installed on working robots in the field.
  • 12 months: You’re driving improvements in electrical system reliability, safety, and scalability, and mentoring others on best practices in industrial electrical design.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Controls Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in industrial electrical design and panel building.
  • Strong knowledge of CSA electrical codes for machinery (knowledge of UL/CE standards is a plus).
  • Experience with product certification (CSA, UL, CE) of electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Experience in at least two of the following environments: system integration, product development, or production environment.
  • Proficiency in electrical CAD tools for schematics and wiring diagrams (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or equivalent).
  • Experience with component selection and sizing (breakers, fuses, relays, drives, contactors, power supplies, PLC I/O, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with panel wiring, assembly, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial communication protocols.
  • A safety-first mindset and a passion for building reliable, production-ready systems.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in the province of British Columbia

Why This Role Matters

Our robots can only succeed if they’re built on a foundation of safe, compliant, and reliable electrical systems. This role ensures that foundation is rock-solid. By bringing industrial electrical expertise to our team, you’ll help us move faster from prototypes to scalable production, and ensure our robots deliver in the demanding environments of commercial farms.

  • Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses
  • Access to extended health, dental, and vision care, plus an annual healthcare spending account
  • Flexible work hours—we value results over timesheets
  • Collaborative, fun, and innovative work environment

What We Believe

At 4AG Robotics, we thrive in the fast-paced world of start-ups. Innovation drives us, and staying open to new ideas keeps us moving forward. We encourage healthy debate but always commit to moving forward as a team. We work hard, support each other fully, and value agility over bureaucracy. And yes, the freezer is always stocked with ice cream!

The pay range for this role is:

100,000 - 120,000 CAD per year (Salmon Arm, BC)
