Job description

Youwillberesponsibleforleadingthefinancialoperationsandcontrollershipfunctions,includingfinancialreporting,compliance,internalcontrols,andfinancialsystems.Thisrolewillpartnerwithotherseniorleaderstoensurethattheorganization’sfinancialoperationsareefficient,compliantwithregulations,andalignedwithstrategicobjectives.Thepositionwilloverseeateamoffinanceprofessionalsandensurethataccurateandtimelyfinancialinformationisavailabletosupportdecision-making.

RoleResponsibilities:

Financial Reporting and Accounting

  • Overseethepreparationofaccurate,timely,andcompliantfinancialstatements,includingmonthly,quarterly,andannualreports.
  • Ensureaccuracyandtimelinessoffinancialreportingacrosstheorganization.
  • Ensuretimelycompletionofinternalandexternalfinancialreports,includingsupportingschedulesanddisclosures.

Statutory returns and compliance

  • Providefinancialdocumentationandsupportforcompliance-relatedapplicationsincludinginsurancerenewals,grantfundingorregulatoryfilings.
  • Ensuretimelyfilingofallstatutoryreturns(e.g.GST/HST,CorporateTax,payrollremittances,WSIB,andetc.)

Internal Controls and Compliance

  • Developandmaintainarobustsystemofinternalcontrolstoensuretheintegrityoffinancialdataandcompliancewithregulatoryrequirements.
  • Identifypotentialfinancialrisksanddevelopstrategiestomitigatethem.
  • OverseecompliancewithSarbanes-Oxley(SOX)orotherregulatoryframeworks,ensuringallrequireddocumentationandtestingareinplace.
  • Leadeffortsforexternalaudits,preparingnecessarydocumentation,andensuringcompliancewithauditrequirements.

Accounting Oversight

  • Overseethecompany’sgeneralaccountingoperations,includingmanagingthegeneralledger,month-endandyear-endcloseprocesses,andreconciliationofaccounts.
  • Reviewandapprovejournalentriesandaccountreconciliationstoensureaccuracyandcompleteness.
  • Managetheconsolidationoffinancialstatementsformultipleentities,ifapplicable.

Operational Efficiency

  • Drivecontinuousimprovementinfinancialprocesses,systems,andprocedurestoincreaseefficiencyandreducecosts.
  • Overseeandmanageday-to-dayfinanceoperations,includingaccountspayable/receivable,payroll,andfinancialsystems.
  • CollaboratewithITandoperationsteamstostreamlinefinancialsystemsandautomation.

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Managethebudgeting,forecasting,andfinancialplanningprocesses.
  • Workcloselywithbusinessleaderstoalignfinancialplanswithstrategicgoalsandoperationalneeds.
  • Analysefinancialresultsandprovideactionableinsightstoseniormanagementfordecision-making.

Strategic Financial Analysis

  • Provideinsightsandrecommendationsonfinancialperformanceandtrendstoseniorleadership.
  • DevelopandmaintainkeyfinancialmetricsandKPIstomonitorthehealthoftheorganization.
  • Supportbusinesscaseanalysisforcapitalexpenditures,investments,andotherstrategicinitiatives.
  • Lead,mentor,anddevelopthefinanceoperationsandcontrollershipteam.
  • Fosteracultureofaccountability,highperformance,andprofessionaldevelopmentwithintheteam.
  • Setcleargoalsandexpectationsforteammembers,ensuringalignmentwithdepartmentandorganizationalobjectives.

Education&Experience:

  • Bachelor’sdegreeinfinance,Accounting,orarelatedfield.Amaster’sdegreeinbusinessadministration(MBA)oraCPA,CMA,orotherrelevantcertificationsispreferred.
  • 10+yearsofexperienceinfinance,accounting,orfinancialoperations,withatleast5yearsinaleadershipordirector-levelposition.
  • Strongexperienceinfinancialreporting,controllership,internalcontrols,compliance,andoperations.
  • Provenexperienceinmanagingfinancialsystemsandworkingwithcross-functionalteams.
  • In-depthknowledgeofGAAP,SOX,andregulatorycompliancerequirements.
