Qualifications

What you’ll be doing

As a Consultant Underwriting, you will be accountable for reviewing, processing and approving complex residential mortgage / real estate secured and unsecured applications received from branches and alternate distribution channels in a timely and effective manner.

How you’ll succeed
  • Make effective decisions – Negotiate/approve/conditionally approve/ recommend/decline, within established guidelines and authorized lending limit of up to $4,000,000, complex residential mortgage, real estate secured and unsecured applications. Complex applications include (but not limited to) multiple rentals, progress draws, purchase plus improvements, aboriginal loans, special programs, remediation loans, low side score overrides, GDS/TDS exceptions, environmental issues, card products over $50,000, CIBC O/D protection service, discretionary overdraft limits & specialized unsecured lending.

  • Facilitate risk assessment – Gather, review and critically assess property specific third party due diligence reports including real estate appraisals, environmental site assessments. Review real estate appraisals for consistency with prevailing market conditions.

  • Consultative - Act as a consultant for underwriters, branches, mortgage advisers & brokers wishing to appeal credit decisions. Negotiate satisfactory resolution to applications within the business and credit risk objectives of the Bank. Provide specialized advice and guidance on company policy, procedures, and security value estimates.

  • Leadership - Provide guidance and counsel on adjudication matters to various senior mortgage business partners to assist them in meeting their business plan objectives while maintaining an acceptable level of risk in the portfolio. Alert Director to any deteriorating signs of credit quality or unusual industry / geographic trends emerging in the managed portfolios.

It’s an asset if you have working knowledge of the options of CIBC Mortgages and related areas typically acquired through two years general mortgage.
