Job summary

A post-secondary institution in Kelowna is seeking a Connectivity Technician to plan and implement network installations. The candidate will install IT hardware, including TVs and projectors, and maintain network communication systems. The ideal applicant should have a two-year post-secondary education in a related field, with at least two years of experience. This part-time position offers flexible work hours. The salary range is $30.74 to $35.07 per hour.

Connectivity Technician (AV & Telecom)

Responsibilities
  • Plans network installations through studying customer requests, plans, manuals, and technical specifications.
  • Responsible for the physical installation of IT hardware including mounting TV’s, projectors, sound systems, network switches, wireless access points, etc.
  • Installs and repairs digital communication networks including installing equipment and handling necessary maintenance tasks.
  • Performs jack installations, cross connections, patch panels related to telecom and audio visual installations.
  • Diagnoses current circuit issues and works to resolve related problems.
  • Prepares and maintains all necessary documentation to keep records current and equipment appropriately labelled.
  • Maintains an inventory of spare parts including cables, headsets, telephones and orders equipment, supplies, material, tools as required.
  • Assesses installations sites and prepares necessary installation diagrams for renovations and projects.
  • Monitors contractor cabling work for adherence to cabling standards.
  • Assists in the development of policies and procedures related to network and telephone equipment.
  • Assists in the administration of voice systems account management.
  • Complies with all safety regulations.
  • Maintains currency with respect to best practices and industry trends by participating in educational opportunities and reviewing current technical publications.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Education & Experience

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent and graduation from a two year post secondary program in a related area. Minimum 2 years of related experience.

Skills & Abilities
  • Strong technical, analytical, problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of network design an asset
  • Knowledge of voice systems
  • Ability to frequently lift and move a large variety of equipment of up to 20 kg and occasionally move/lift equipment of more than 20 kg.
  • This position will, on occasion, have to work in confined spaces
  • Prioritize and organize work effectively
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent customer interaction skills and communication skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include evenings, weekends and overtime
Salary

$30.74 - $35.07 hourly rate. Appointment Type: Support - Regular Part-time.
