JOB SUMMARY

IRC is in partnership with the Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program. The Canada Prenatal Nutrition program is inviting applications for Community Workers based in Sachs Harbour, NT. Under the guidance of the Health Promotions Coordinator, the Community Worker is responsible to plan and deliver Nutrition Program, activities and provide support for women who are pregnant, or have babies less than one year of age with the goal of improving the health of mothers and infants.

The Community Workers organize cooking groups for pregnant women and young parents, selects or helps women select nutritious recipes, shops for healthy groceries and snacks and ensures required cooking equipment and supplies are readily available. The successful candidate plans special activities and educational talks for a pregnancy/parenting support group that includes sessions on healthy eating, breastfeeding support, infant nutrition, and healthy living. Sessions are held on a weekly/bi‐weekly/monthly basis according to community workplan/budget.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be/have:

  • Minimum Grade 8 education.
  • Basic cooking skills with ability to follow recipes.
  • Ability to lead group information sessions.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Cultural awareness of local community
