Position Overview

As a casual Community Housing Support Worker, you’ll support individuals in our Community Living Services programs who live with neurodevelopmental disabilities and unique neurobehavioural needs. Our clients may be navigating things like substance use, housing challenges, dual diagnosis, or behaviours that place them at greater risk, so your compassion, patience, and creativity will make a real difference.

You’ll work closely with the Quality Service Lead and/or Community Living Services Manager to understand each person’s goals and help build meaningful plans around daily living, recreation, social connections, housing, and finances. When helpful, you’ll also collaborate with families and community partners to support the person’s success.

This role offers lots of independent work with individuals in their homes and out in the community, and every day brings a chance to help someone feel more supported, capable, and confident.

Major Responsibilities
  • Assist with activities of daily living (e.g. meeting professional appointments, budgeting, shopping, recreational activities, and basic cooking/meal planning assistance)
  • Recognize, analyze, and address challenging and emergent situations
  • Collaborate with CLBC facilitators and those served to determine service plans/goals
  • Promote independence, safety, and overall quality of life
  • Support with medication monitoring or management
  • Use harm reduction and strengths-based approaches
  • Contribute towards positive behavioural support frameworks
  • Co-facilitate therapeutic, recreational, and educational social group activities
  • Exercise good judgement and professional boundaries
  • Maintain daily contact reports and conduct needs assessments

  • Diploma or degree in social, criminal justice, or behavioural sciences

  • Knowledge of housing continuum and barriers to accessing safe and affordable housing
  • Intermediate computer skills with ability and willingness to learn new programs
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Class 5 drivers license, clean drivers abstract, and access to vehicle for work purposes
  • Able to pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check
  • Valid Level 1 First Aid certificate or higher
