Reporting to the Senior Commercial Manager, the successful candidate will oversee the administration of contracts with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers.

What You Will Be Working On

  • Conduct forensic reviews of baseline and progress construction schedules, providing input to the project team.
  • Develop risk registers and identify key contractual obligations from contract reviews.
  • Review Prime Contracts to determine obligations, liabilities, and risks.
  • Manage contract administration processes and outcomes.
  • Interpret Prime Contract language.
  • Develop contract management activities to ensure compliance with the Prime Contract.
  • Manage contract reporting and track deliverables.
  • Identify, mitigate, prevent, and resolve problems involving high risk or significant monetary impact to Bird.
  • Develop correspondence with clients to request necessary changes and modifications.
  • Assist in negotiations concerning changes.
  • Ensure timely and accurate contractual communication.
  • Develop and implement Change Management procedures and track contract and subcontract modifications.
  • Negotiate Change Orders, variations, and related issues.
  • Prepare narratives and entitlement documentation.
  • Manage claims, including preparation of submissions and claims avoidance strategies.
  • Analyze bids from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Negotiate and manage subcontracts and purchase orders, resolving contractual issues as needed.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and the public.
  • Train staff on contract processes, procedures, and obligations.
  • Coordinate with project teams and provide quarterly commercial management reports to district and risk management groups.
  • Develop and implement district and company-wide best practices and policies.
  • Present lunch-and-learn sessions on commercial principles and lessons learned.
  • Conduct monthly reviews of potential claims and opportunities with senior management.
  • Review surety and insurance policies.
  • Support project pursuit teams and estimating efforts.
  • Develop tender and RFP qualification strategies.

What We Are Looking For

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in construction management or related field.
  • 8+ years of leadership experience in construction.
  • Strong background in contract management.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Project, and Primavera P6.
  • Excellent financial and numeracy skills.
  • Knowledge of contract language and legal requirements.
  • Ability to build trust and engage stakeholders effectively.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain positive relationships.
  • Capability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and investigative skills.
  • Critical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills, capable of simplifying complex concepts.
