Bow Valley Credit Union is seeking an experienced Commercial Account Manager, Agriculture to join our growing commercial lending team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to combine your passion for agriculture with your commercial lending expertise while making a meaningful impact in our local communities.
As a trusted advisor to our agribusiness members, you'll be responsible for delivering comprehensive commercial lending solutions, from initial assessment through ongoing portfolio management. You'll work with a diverse range of agricultural operations, providing the financial expertise and relationship-focused service that helps our members succeed.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Commercial Lending & Credit Management
- Assess and underwrite agribusiness and commercial credit applications by analyzing financial statements, credit reports, and industry‑specific risk factors
- Structure loan solutions that balance member needs with sound risk management practices
- Prepare detailed credit submissions and recommendations for approval, including presentations to Credit Committee
- Monitor portfolio health through covenant compliance tracking, risk identification, and proactive account management
- Conduct regular site visits to maintain strong member relationships and stay connected to operations
Business Development & Relationship Management
- Build lasting relationships with agricultural producers and commercial members through exceptional service and industry knowledge
- Identify opportunities to provide value through lending, deposits, cash management, and other financial solutions
- Actively participate in community and industry events to strengthen BVCU's presence in the agricultural sector
- Contribute to the development of commercial programs that support both member needs and portfolio growth
Risk & Portfolio Management
- Ensure all lending decisions align with BVCU's credit policies and risk management standards
- Proactively manage early‑stage delinquencies and implement appropriate workout strategies when needed
- Maintain comprehensive documentation and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Stay current on agricultural sector trends, market conditions, and emerging risks
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
Education & Experience
- Post‑secondary degree in Agriculture Business or related field, or6–8 years of commercial lending experience with proven portfolio management and credit underwriting expertise
- Demonstrated success in business development and building member relationships in a commercial banking environment
- Strong understanding of credit union operations, lending legislation, and regulatory requirements
Core Competencies
- Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills with strong attention to detail
- Proven ability to assess financial viability, structure credit solutions, and make sound lending decisions
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills for building trust‑based relationships
- Proficiency with MS Office and banking systems (DNA experience an asset)
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
- Strong business development skills and a proactive approach to identifying opportunities

THE FINE PRINT:
- With the support of our technology and flexible work tools, the role allows you to be where you need to be to best support member needs, business requirements, and ongoing relationship management, with your leader sitting in Cochrane's Administration Office. There is an expectation of periodic face‑to‑face meetings a year
- Working Hours: Monday – Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
- Must be bondable and have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full‑time basis for anyone other than current employer
- This role will remain open until a suitable candidate is found
