Overview

Ponoka is a growing community that offers urban amenities and quality of living all in a picturesque, rural setting. The town of Ponoka is nestled in the Battle River Valley, with easy access to Red Deer, Edmonton and Calgary. The Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre is a busy acute care facility with a vibrant emergency department. You will work as a member of the inter-disciplinary team with responsibilities including collecting and analyzing biological specimens, conducting X-ray examinations, performing ECGs and reporting results. This position also includes coverage at the Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury. Shifts will be scheduled at this facility as operationally needed. The position includes days, evenings, weekends and on-call with a 30-minute response time. Relocation assistance may be available with a return to Service Agreement.

As a Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist I, you will perform procedures in both the laboratory and in diagnostic imaging, typically in rural sites. You will work as a member of the inter-professional team and be responsible for collecting and analyzing biological specimens, conducting X-ray examinations, ECGs and reporting results. Your responsibilities include preparing patients, venipuncture and micropuncture, routine equipment maintenance, maintaining supplies and performing quality control procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Perform procedures in both laboratory and diagnostic imaging settings as part of an inter-professional team.
  • Collect and analyze biological specimens; conduct X-ray examinations and ECGs; report results.
  • Prepare patients, perform venipuncture and micropuncture; maintain supplies and perform routine quality control.
  • Maintenance of equipment and adherence to safety and quality standards.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Completion of a diploma from an accredited program in Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology (CLXT). Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Combined Laboratory and X-ray Technologists (ACCLXT).

Additional Required Qualifications: Laboratory experience including hematology, expanded chemistry, coagulation and urinalysis including microscopic analysis. Recent cardiology experience including ECGs. Diagnostic Imaging experience including DR, CR and mobile radiography. Current phlebotomy experience including venipuncture, micropuncture, blood culture and Type and Screen on all ages and patient types. Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification. Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; service-oriented manner. Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with patients, families, staff, inter-disciplinary team members and personnel from other departments in a fast-paced environment. Strong analytic and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently. Well organized and flexible.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Connect Care Epic, Unity Real Time, WellSky, MUSE and Agfa PEI (xray LIS). Minimum 2 years of healthcare setting experience. Familiarity with Ortho Vitros XT 3400, DxH 600, Clinitek Advantus, Access 2 and ACL Elite Pro instruments.
