Overview

You’re precise, analytical, detail-oriented – just the kind of person we need at Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) located in Innisfail. You work well under pressure and are able to prioritize workload and adapt to stressful and emergency situations using tact and diplomacy. You can follow lab and diagnostic imaging processes and procedures exactly, including hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, specimen collection, preparation, referral, cardiology and general diagnostic imaging. Innisfail Hospital and Care Centre is a busy site where you will work both independently and as part of a team utilizing your organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. The position includes days, evenings, weekends and on call duties. Conveniently situated on the Calgary-Edmonton Corridor, Innisfail is a thriving mid‑sized community in what some may say is the perfect location. It’s just 15 minutes south of Red Deer and an hour north of Calgary. The town has many amenities including walking trails, golf course, theatre and a swimming pool. The Innisfail Health Centre is an acute care facility with an active emergency department. Rosefield Centre is a Seniors Facility which is attached to the Health Centre. Please note, this facility provides Long Term Care (LTC) or Designated Supportive Living.

Description

As a Combined Laboratory and X‑Ray Technologist I, you will perform procedures in both the laboratory and in diagnostic imaging, typically in rural sites. You will work as a member of the inter‑professional team and be responsible for collecting and analyzing biological specimens, conducting X‑ray examinations, ECGs and reporting results. Your responsibilities include preparing patients, venipuncture and micropuncture, routine equipment maintenance, maintaining supplies and performing quality control procedures as required.

Required Qualifications

Completion of diploma from an accredited program in Combined Laboratory and X‑Ray Technology (CLXT). Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Combined Laboratory and X‑Ray Technologists (ACCLXT).

Additional Required Qualifications

Recent relevant experience as a Combined Laboratory and X‑Ray Technologist performing procedures in a core laboratory including hematology, expanded chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, specimen collection, preparation and general diagnostic imaging, including hospital affiliate training programs. Recent cardiology experience including ECG and Holter Monitor. Proven interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are required. Excellent public relation and a service‑oriented manner are essential. Must be able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with patients/clients, families, staff, inter‑disciplinary team members and personnel from other departments in a fast‑paced and changing environment. Proven analytic and problem solving skills, attention to detail, logical/methodical work habits, and demonstrated ability to work independently are required. Candidate must be well organized and flexible. Current phlebotomy experience including venipuncture, micropuncture, blood culture and Type and Screen on all ages and patient types. Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

Recent and Relevant Experience with Connect Care Epic and Wellsky. Recent DR & CR experience. Familiar with DxH 600, Access 2, ACL Elite Pro, Ortho Vitros XT 3400, Clinitek Advantus. Recent experience with MUSE, Cardioday, PACS, Unity Real Time.
