Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of current Clerical experience within a Perioperative Services department.
  • Current knowledge of the Perioperative environment and patient flow preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis.

Expected Average Number of Hours: 8-16 hrs bi-weekly ( not a guarantee of hours )

As a key member of our Perioperative team, this position will work days Monday to Friday rotating though the Surgical Day Care, Pre-op Clinic, and Fracture Clinic. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: greeting and directing patients, interfacing with clinical staff, discharge charts, managing incoming phone calls, booking patient appointments, order entry, preoperative lists, WTIS and other duties as per Job Fact Sheet. The Clerical Associate must maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information in accordance with the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).

The physical demands of the role may include but are not limited to prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling. This position contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of current Clerical experience within a Perioperative Services department
  • Medical Office Administration program diploma is required
  • Medical Terminology certificate is required
  • Working knowledge of software including Meditech, OR Manager and MS office suite is required
  • Current knowledge of the Perioperative environment and patient flow is preferred
  • Must be able to type 60 WPM accurately
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Proven track record interfacing with a broad range of clients including physician offices and patients
  • Strong decision-making skills and solid judgment
  • Proven track record coordinating, prioritizing and developing effective workflow methods to increase efficiency
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis is required
