Job description

Reporting to the Civil Structural Lead, Oil Sands Major Projects, you will be responsible for the design of new structures and foundations as well as modifications to existing structures (such as platforms, access ladders, pipe supports, pipe rack, enclosures, replacement or addition of steel structure to existing facilities, etc.), and civil works (land grading, culverts, ditches, pond linings and erosion control).

Key Accountabilities:

  • Perform structural analyses and design of numerous steel structures and foundation
  • Prepare project detailed documentation such as design calculations, spreadsheet and construction work packages for in-house engineered projects
  • Provide field engineering support
  • Support front end work on projects with reports, analysis and studies required to proof feasibility of concepts
  • Support detailed cost estimates by cost engineers for in-house engineering work
  • Develop, review and maintain all engineering standards and specifications relating to civil structural engineering for the project

What You Bring to the Role:

  • Civil/Structural Engineering degree and registration with APEGA (or eligibility to register) as an EIT
  • Relevant industry experience focusing on structural analysis, steel and concrete design
  • Comprehensive understanding of design codes such as NBCC, CSA S16 and CSA A23.3 for environmental load calculation
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Excel macro, SAP2000 and STAAD Pro and Smart Plant Review
  • Experience with steel and foundation design of pipe rack and equipment supporting structure will be preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, proven analytical abilities, exceptional problem-solving skills, initiative, and ability to prioritize work effectively with high attention to detail
