Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a Mid- to Senior-level Civil CAD Designer to join our Vancouver, British Columbia office. As part of the CAD Group, the CAD Designer will create, analyze and optimize designs for a variety of projects using CAD/BIM software and other tools that support design/drafting workflows. As the successful Designer, you will work closely with other team members to create practical solutions and produce high quality drawings that meet project needs. You will develop drawings using AutoCAD for use in planning, reports, and construction documents on Civil, Port, Maritime, and Infrastructure Engineering projects.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Create 2D and 3D models of physical structures and infrastructure
  • Prepare drawing documentation using AutoCAD/Civil 3D
  • Perform detailed grading design and compute volumes of excavations and fill for dredging and earthmoving projects using Civil 3D
  • Create pipe network and pressure network models of various systems using Civil 3D
  • Create detailed corridor models of various site civil and coastal projects
  • Collaborate with other design team members to ensure design meets industry standards and client needs
  • Troubleshoot design issues and provide technical advice to other team members
  • Manage the production of complete sets of high-quality design drawings
  • Collaborate with consultants and staff from other Moffatt & Nichol offices
  • Coordinate development of 2D and 3D models between disciplines including but not limited to structural, architectural, site civil, roadway, grading, and MEP
  • Set-up project specific CADD standards and introduce new methods and CADD routines to enhance productivity and improve operations

Qualifications:
  • Technical or Associate’s degree from an accredited college in a related discipline
  • 7 to 10+ years’ experience in a technician/drafter role; required
  • 5 years minimum experience in a designer role using Civil 3D; required
  • Working knowledge of CAD standards and their implementation
  • Proven ability to perform in a technical CAD or BIM lead role
  • Understanding general design concepts and construction methods and materials
  • Ability to work on projects with minimal supervision
  • Good analytical thinking, problem solving skills, and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Possess good organization and time management skills
  • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Availability for occasional travel to a project site or other offices
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171
  • Some projects may require additional background checks
Physical requirements:

Work is generally performed in an office setting, sitting for prolonged periods. The ability to use standard office equipment is required. On occasion, travel may be required to a project site or other office.

Base salary range:

$40 to $50 per hour based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualification in job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the Vancouver market.
