Planner I-or-Planner II - Long Range Planning (16 month Term)

The City of Campbell River is seeking an experienced Planner to join our Long Range Planning Team as either a Planner I OR Planner II in this 16 month term position.

The Roles: As part of the Long Range Planning team, you will be working in a fast-paced and customer service orientated environment.

  • The Planner I supports long-range planning projects through research, analysis, and assisting with policy development. The role assists with reports, studies, and public engagement, applying planning knowledge to land use and growth initiatives. The Planner I works independently on routine tasks and consults with the manager on complex or sensitive issues.
  • The Planner II plays a key role in leading a variety of long-range planning projects and initiatives. The Planner II will conduct research and analysis, prepare detailed reports and policy recommendations, draft and update bylaws, and lead public engagement activities. Acting as a project manager, the successful candidate will provide technical advice, and collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and the public to help shape the community’s future.

To be considered for either of these roles, our ideal candidate will hold the following qualifications:

Planner I – $40.27 per hour – 2025 Rate of Pay (35 hour work week)

  • Undergraduate degree from a recognized institution in community or regional planning, urban design, land use, or a related field.
  • Eligible for candidate membership with the Planning Institute of British Columbia (PIBC).
  • 1 year related experience in land use, community or regional planning or urban design OR experience working with provincial statutes and regulations and municipal bylaws, within the last 5 years.

Planner II - $48.17 per hour - 2025 Rate of Pay (35 hour work week)

  • Undergraduate degree in Urban, Community or Regional Planning or a related field.
  • Be a member in good standing with the Planning Institute of British Columbia (PIBC) and actively pursuing full membership as a certified Registered Professional Planner.
  • 4 years of progressive planning experience within the last 7 years, in community or regional planning, preferable at the local government level.
