Purpose of Position
  • Under the supervision of the Center Director, Assistant Director and the ECE Services Supervisor II, the teacher assistant supports the ECE Services Supervisor II in caring for and supervising children 18 months to age 12.
  • Assist the teacher in maintaining a developmentally appropriate classroom, supporting all children regardless of abilities.
  • Assist, as directed, in sustaining a stimulating learning environment and meeting the standards of the Age‑Appropriate Environmental Rating Scale, Edition 3 (Step 2 of ND Bright and Early), achieving at least a rating of 5.
  • Adapt and accommodate daily routines to meet individual needs of children with or without special needs.
  • Maintain a safe, healthy environment that fosters children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development in accordance with I‑1.5 Code of Ethical Conduct (NAEYC, 2011) and Caring For Our Children, 4th Edition (sections 5.3‑6.4).
  • Provide developmentally appropriate educational experiences following Early Childhood Services rules and the Childcare Center Early Childhood Services Chapter 75‑03‑10 standards.
  • Support the classroom teacher in maintaining health and safety, including supervision, health assessments using UCLC guidelines, and compliance with Bright & Early Step 1.
  • Communicate with families and guardians daily and maintain confidentiality unless required by law.
  • Work effectively, respectfully, and professionally as part of a team, collaborating with coworkers and contributing to program quality.
  • Serve as a role model for acceptable behavior and conduct, embodying professional and ethical standards.
  • Participate in required training: basic childcare course, CPR/First Aid, and ongoing professional development per DHS and ND Bright and Early regulations.
  • Keep classroom spaces clean and organized (essential).
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least one of:
    • 40 hours of early childhood professional development, including 10 hours in each of the ND Core Competency Areas: Families/Communities, Program Planning/Evaluation, Professional Development and Leadership (training provided by a recognized agency such as Head Start, Growing Futures, US Military).
    • Early Childhood Certificate from a vocational or technical school.
    • One 3‑semester college credit course directly applicable to one of the following ND Core Competency Areas: Families/Communities, Program Planning/Evaluation, Professional Development and Leadership.
    • One year of work experience in Early Childhood Education.
  • All of the following:
    • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
    • Successful completion of the ND Department Health and Human Services Criminal History Fingerprinting Background Check.
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Upon hiring: completion of CPR/First Aid/AED training and ND Growing Futures basic childcare course “Getting Started.”

  • Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development Certificate (CDA).
