Job summary

A non-profit service provider in Langley is looking for a full-time Child and Youth Support Worker to monitor and support youth in a specialized home setting. The Opportunity

We are seeking a self‑directed, engaging, empathetic Full‑Time Child and Youth Support Worker to join our growing team. Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Child and Youth Support Worker monitors and attends to the well‑being and safety of all persons residing in a specialized home support services. The program, located in Langley, is a 24‑hour emergency receiving home for youth between the ages of 12 to 19 who are in need of short‑term stabilization.

Child and Youth Support Workers work with some of the most vulnerable and complex youth in the care of, or on a Youth Agreement with, the Ministry of Children and Family Development. Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience in meeting youth where they’re at, recognition of the ongoing influence of trauma and disconnection on the youth served and support building on youth’s strengths and passions to create meaning. Delivery of these services must be provided with an understanding of the ongoing effects of trauma, isolation and vulnerability.

HOURS OF WORK: 4‑days On and 4 days Off rotating schedule: 3 pm – 11 pm

SALARY RANGE: Grid 11, Step 2: $28.49 – $31.61 per hour (depending on qualifications and experience)

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensures that the living environment for program participants is trauma informed, inclusive, comfortable, non‑judgmental and reflective of cultural practices.
  • Engages with program participants to ensure personal needs are met by promoting life skills (ex. basic personal hygiene, preparing healthy and nutritious meals, access to community resources).
  • Ensures home environment is safe.
  • Ensuring cupboards containing biohazardous materials, medications, sharps, or cleaners are secured and accounted for.
  • May be required to complete room, bag or personnel checks to ensure safety of youth, staff and home environment.
  • Records, reports and responds to potential health and safety risks within home.
  • Completes and reports sharps counts once per shift.
  • Responds to emergencies in accordance with established policies and procedures, including proper notifications (supervisor, MCFD, other professionals, etc.).
  • Engages with participants in the development of their individualized service plan including intake, assessment, goal setting, progress and transition planning.
  • Ensures that logbooks and other documentation such as case notes and incident reports are legible and completed as per program expectations. Completes notifications for incidents as required (AWOL/Missing Person’s reports, etc.).
  • Responsible for accurate petty cash records including counting and reporting of funds. Participates in petty cash reconciliation.
  • Monitors program participants’ medications in accordance with established policy, guidelines and training.
  • Performs housekeeping duties in support of health and safety regulations. This may include but is not limited to vacuuming, dusting, emptying garbage, sanitizing, cleaning and laundry. Reports maintenance needs to the supervisor.
  • Maintains yardwork including trimming, weeding and general clean up.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education and Knowledge
  • Certificate/Diploma in a related human/social service field.
  • Education and experience utilizing trauma informed practice.
Training and Experience
  • Two (2) years recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current First Aid certification.
  • Food Safety certificate.
Skills and Abilities
  • Must possess a working knowledge of computers (Microsoft Word/Excel/Teams).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective problem‑solving, conflict resolution and crisis intervention, and de‑escalation skills.
  • Ability to be flexible, resourceful and possess good time management skills.
  • Ability to perform tasks involving physical activity, including lifting and bending.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of trauma‑informed and culturally safe principles of care.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Acts, pertinent regulations, policy, procedures and other statutory and certification requirements (such as the Mental Health Act; Adult Guardianship Act; Child, Family and Community Service Act; and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act).
  • Effective listening skills that promote communication and a cooperative approach to problem solving and decision making.
  • Ability to work effectively with others in a multicultural environment, independently and as part of a team, including understanding the frameworks of other disciplines.
  • Knowledge of systemic issues and risk factors facing underrepresented, racialized, neurodiverse, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and communities.
Other Information
  • Must possess a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s license, have a reliable vehicle, Business Insurance and acceptable drivers abstract. (Mileage paid for work use)
  • Police Information check and MCFD background clearance.
