Job description

Our headquarters are based in La Ronge, Saskatchewan with an administration team based in Saskatoon. This position will be based out of either the La Ronge or Saskatoon office, with periodic travel between locations required.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer will be responsible for the financial performance management and reporting of Kitsaki and financial oversight of the Kitsaki Managed Entities. The CFO will work in collaboration with the CEO, COO, and General Managers of the Kitsaki Managed Entities to ensure systems, processes and personnel within the respective finance teams are aligned with the strategic direction and Kitsaki-specific objectives.

This includes establishing long-term goals, strategies, policies, and procedures and overall corporate protocols to maintain business relations and responsibilities.

Specific Responsibilities:

Policy/Strategy Implementation/Other

  • Oversight of finance teams within Kitsaki group.
  • Participate in the senior leadership of Kitsaki Management in formulating the company's future direction and supporting strategic initiatives.
  • Participate, monitor, and direct the implementation of strategic business plans as they are developed.
  • Participate, follow-up and review potential buy-sell acquisitions as presented to the Kitsaki group of companies. Assist subsidiaries in their efforts to expand or diversify.
  • Lead the acquisition due diligence and participate in the negotiation of acquisitions.
  • Updates working knowledge by remaining aware of new regulations; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Manage the relationship with financial institutions, external auditors, consultants, legal counsel, IT service provider, investment portfolio manager, and commercial insurance services.
  • Maintain relationship with the Kitsaki management team and subsidiary management teams.

Treasury/ Financing

  • Development of borrowing proposals with operating companies for financing requirements including capital budgeting.
  • Lead and implement the Kitsaki Capital Structure Management policy to ensure compliance with policy and reporting to the Board of Directors.
  • Administration of investment fund activities, responsible to report on investment performance to the investment committee, provide information to the investment committee as instructed by the CEO.
  • Leads the Kitsaki Investment Committee, maximizes return on invested funds based on agreed-upon policy by identifying investment opportunities, maintaining relationships with the Investment advisors/portfolio manager.

Financial Accounting/External Reporting

  • Responsible for preparing internal non-consolidation and consolidation reporting, quarterly MD&A preparation and presentation to the Board of Directors.
  • Liaison with external auditor to manage the external audit process, including the planning and support to external auditor, preparation of external financial statements of subsidiaries, parent companies in accordance with ASPE.
  • Correspondence and reporting requirements of the shareholder.
  • Tax compliance and tax planning opportunities for all current and future limited partnerships and general partner corporations controlled by Kitsaki. Develop financial and tax strategies including recommendations on appropriate corporate structures as required.
  • Preparation of ad-hoc forecasts and cash flow planning as required by the CEO.

Budgeting and Reporting

  • Lead the annual budgeting process, participate in the approval of budgets presented by the group of companies. Develop appropriate key performance indicators to manage performance.
  • Preparation of Kitsaki Development and Kitsaki Management annual budgets, quarterly consolidated and annual consolidated financial statements for presentation to Kitsaki senior leadership and Board of Directors.

Risk Management

  • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage.
  • Monitor and report all outstanding legal issues for Kitsaki and Its subsidiaries.
  • Communicate risk issues to the Kitsaki CEO on a timely basis.
  • Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications and Essential Skills

  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field and a CPA designation.
  • 10+ years' experience in finance/accounting, with a minimum of 5 years' experience in a senior leadership role.
  • Superior leadership, negotiation, relationship building and communications skills
  • Broad knowledge of technology.
  • Superior business acumen in the presentation and delivery of financial information.
  • Intermediate software proficiency.
  • Knowledge of planning and execution as well as the development and implementation of policy, strategies and procedures.
  • Proven ability to motivate teams (that are geographically diverse) and simultaneously manage several financial related projects.
  • Must be a detail-oriented, analytical proactive problem solver and creative thinker.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a continuous improvement mindset, customer service focus, and a proactive spirit.
