The Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC) is the regulatory body responsible for overseeing the profession of architecture in British Columbia, operating under the authority of the Professional Governance Act (PGA). In the interest of public protection, the AIBC regulates the profession through a modern and responsive regulatory framework that ensures accountability, transparency, and excellence in architectural practice.
Reporting to the Board, the Chief Executive Officer & Registrar leads the organization in fulfilling its public interest mandate and advancing regulatory excellence. This role provides strategic direction and oversight for AIBC’s operations, working closely with an experienced executive team that supports both regulatory functions and corporate operations. As Registrar, the CEO also carries out statutory duties under legislation and bylaws that govern the profession in BC.
The CEO serves as the primary liaison with Registrants, government, and sector partners and plays a key role in shaping the future of professional regulation; both provincially and nationally. Internally, the CEO is responsible for stewarding a healthy organizational culture, guiding strategic and financial planning, modernizing systems and processes, and ensuring strong risk and succession management practices are in place.
The ideal candidate is a strategic and collaborative executive with experience leading within a public interest organization, regulatory body, or similarly complex environment. They are a confident communicator and trusted leader, known for building inclusive teams and fostering productive relationships with government, Boards, and peer regulators. With a commitment to excellence in governance and organizational effectiveness, they bring sound operational judgement, policy acumen, and a deep understanding of the responsibilities and nuances of professional regulation.
The targeted salary range for this position is $207,000 – $258,000 annually, supplemented by a competitive total rewards package.
