Established in 2015 and based in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, MST (Atlantic) Shipping Management ULC (formerly Altera (Atlantic) Management ULC) provides crude oil marine transportation services and manages crude oil shuttle tankers operating on the East Coast of Canada.

MST (Atlantic) Shipping Management ULC is currently accepting resumes for the below position working offshore Atlantic Canada. This a contract position for 12 months with a 12-hour workday.

Vessel: Maran Thule

Position: Chief Engineer - Available positions

Annual Salary: $250,000

Rotation: Approximately six weeks on/off

Contract: March 1, 2026 - February 28, 2027

Position Summary

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the administration of the engine department, for the safe, efficient, and economical operation of all machinery throughout the vessel and for the maintenance of equipment. He/she is responsible for the performance of all machinery, maintenance, inventory of stores, and personnel. This position is a leading role on board the vessel and enforces company policies and ensuring procedures are followed to provide safe working practices and a safe working environment that minimizes the potential for pollution.

Mandatory Qualifications and Experience
  • Proficiency in English required
  • 6+ years experience in rank
  • Bahamas Flag Engineer Class 1 Endorsement
  • Bahamas Flag Advanced Tanker Safety (Oil) Endorsement
  • Valid Engine Room Resource Management Certificate
  • STCW Basic Safety
  • STCW Survival craft other than a fast rescue craft
  • STCW Ship Personnel with Designated Security Duties
  • Unlimited Medical Health Certificate
  • Training in the following specialized systems:
    • Telemetry Technician Course
    • High Voltage for Engineers
    • K-POS Maintenance Course
    • Dynamic Positioning relevant courses: Artemis,BLOM, DGPS/DARPS Maintenance
    • Pusnes BLS 5th generation Technical Course
  • Valid Passport
  • Must pass Physical, Drug Screen, Alcohol Screening and Background /Pre-Employment Screening Checks.
  • Experience in working with NSE (Planned Maintenance System)
Responsibilities
  • Treat safety and environmental compliance as a top priority.
  • Report any unsafe acts or failure to comply with regulations and/or company procedures to the Master.
  • Ensure all company policies and procedures are followed to provide a safe working environment and minimize the potential for pollution.
  • Responsible for the safe, efficient, and economical operation of all vessel machinery and equipment
  • Report to the Master and appropriate team vessel manager on all matters concerning his / her department, which include the performance of all machinery, maintenance, inventory of stores, and personnel.
  • Taking a leading role in the onboard management committee by enforcing company policies and ensuring procedures are followed to provide safe working practices and a safe working environment that minimizes the potential for pollution.
  • Perform troubleshooting, problem solving as well as preventative and corrective maintenance to prevent down time while ensuring the efficient and continual functioning of the vessel.
  • Maintaining close and regular contact with the Master with regards to the vessel's program and informing the Master of any problems that may arise concerning the engineering department.
  • Providing technical advice and assistance to those responsible for the efficient conduct of the vessel in general.
  • Being fully responsible for the operation, care and maintenance of all mechanical machinery, electrical, and electronic equipment on the vessel.
  • Maintain and update the Plan Maintenance System in accordance to company policies.
  • Overall responsibility for coordinating all repairs and maintenance on the vessel regardless of the department on board that requires the service
  • Demonstrate safety awareness
