Job description

The Kenora Catholic District School Board (KCDSB) educates more than 1,300 students in four elementary schools and one secondary school located in Kenora and Red Lake, Ontario. We welcome students to experience a quality, inclusive, and values‑based education within a caring Catholic school community.

KCDSB invites applications for a 1.0 FTE Permanent Secondary School Chaplain located in Kenora, ON. The position commences immediately at St. Thomas Aquinas High School.

St. Thomas Aquinas High School serves students from grades 7–12, and the Chaplain will also provide faith outreach to KCDSB elementary schools, particularly supporting grades 4–6 in faith formation. The Chaplain will be a witness to the Gospel, nurturing a vibrant Catholic culture throughout our school communities, walking with students and staff on their faith journeys, offering pastoral support, meaningful liturgical experiences, and opportunities for prayer, reflection, service, and connection.

Responsibilities
Pastoral and Spiritual Leadership
  • Provide pastoral care and spiritual support to students and staff
  • Coordinate school‑wide liturgies, prayer services, and seasonal celebrations
  • Facilitate daily prayer and provide opportunities for student‑led faith experiences
  • Offer guidance in times of personal or community grief, crisis, or transition
  • Act as a resource for the Religion, Guidance and cross‑curricular departments
Faith Formation and Catholic Education
  • Foster a Catholic school culture rooted in Gospel values, Catholic School Teaching, and the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations
  • Support and collaborate with religion teachers and staff to integrate Catholic identity throughout the curriculum and school life
  • Mentor student faith leaders and promote student involvement in ministry, social justice initiatives, and community outreach
Elementary School Outreach
  • Build relationships with elementary staff and students to help bridge the transition to St. Thomas Aquinas High School
  • Organize shared liturgical events and retreats that connect the elementary and secondary communities
Community Building and Service
  • Promote inclusivity, compassion, and community service within the school
  • Coordinate school‑based outreach and charity projects
  • Serve as liaison between the school, local parishes, diocesan offices, and community faith organizations
  • Participate as an active member of the St. Thomas Aquinas High School School Council

Salary Range: $72,953 – $91,448

Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of and commitment to Catholic faith and values
  • Bachelor's Degree from a credited university in a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience working with youth in faith‑based or educational settings (asset)
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to provide pastoral leadership by developing, implementing, and coordinating a pastoral plan for the school year
  • Ability to lead prayer, liturgies, and retreat activities
  • Familiarity with the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations and Catholic Social Teaching
  • Valid Ontario driver's licence and willingness to travel as required
