CHAMBER OF COMMERCE BOARD OF DIRECTORS BEGINS NEW FISCAL YEAR WITH STRATEGIC DECISIONS AND LEADERSHIP TRANSITION

(Southeast Alberta) – The Southeast Alberta Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has officially commenced its new fiscal year with a series of impactful decisions aimed at strengthening governance, advancing policy priorities, and supporting regional development.

At its September 17, 2025, meeting, the Board of Directors accepted the resignation of Steven Pudwell from his role as President and Director, in accordance with the policies of the organization, following his expression of interest to pursue municipal politics. The Board expressed its appreciation for Mr. Pudwell’s service and leadership during his tenure.

The Board appointed Aaron Fleming as the new President of the Board of Directors to fill the vacancy. This unanimous decision by the Board follows Mr. Fleming's recent completion as Past Chair of the Alberta Chambers of Commerce. Fleming brings a wealth of experience with close to 14 years within the Chamber network in Board leadership positions and holds a strong commitment to the Chamber’s mission of fostering economic growth and advocacy for Southeast Alberta businesses.

“I’m honoured to step into this role at such a pivotal time,” said Aaron Fleming. “Our Board is focused on meaningful action—supporting our members, advocating for smart policy, and helping shape a vibrant future for Southeast Alberta. I look forward to working collaboratively with our business community and stakeholders to build on the Chamber’s strong foundation.”

As President, Aaron aims to not just maintain momentum, but accelerate positive change — championing local businesses, strengthening partnerships, and driving tangible growth across Southeastern Alberta.

The Board also approved several key motions, including the adoption of three new policy positions:

There will also be a request moving forward to City Council following the upcoming municipal election to request amendments to Bylaw 4438 regarding construction value definitions.

The Chamber will also look into Labour Market Development Agreement Funding provincially to gain further insights into how those dollars are spent.

In addition, the Chamber ratified its stance on 46 policy resolutions that will be debated at the upcoming Canadian Chamber conference in October this year.

The Chamber looks forward to its active agenda for the upcoming fiscal year and the municipal election forums taking place September 24, 26 and October 1 to determine where candidates sit on the priorities within this region.

The decisions made at the most recent meeting reflect the Chamber’s ongoing commitment to transparent governance, proactive policy leadership, and meaningful support for its members and the broader Southeast Alberta community.
