Qualifications

Casual Safe and Warm Shelter Intake Support Worker

Samaritan House Ministries Inc. is currently seeking a casual Intake Support Worker for our Safe and Warm Shelter.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe, positive and encouraging atmosphere for shelter guests
  • Provide resources and support for shelter guests
  • Assist shelter guests in accessing programs, help with referrals
  • Assist shelter guests in moving towards personal goals and obtaining skills (daily living, social and life skills)
  • Clean and sanitize all areas in the shelter
  • Help assistants if needed
  • Complete intake forms and paperwork
  • Record HIFIS and use excel data base
  • Other duties as directed by Shelter Manager
Qualifications and skills
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Minimum 1-3 years experience working with at risk population (addictions, family violence, and mental health)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Have a non-judgmental demeanor and cultural awareness
  • Be compassionate and respectful
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work well with a team and respond to team needs with flexibility
  • Valid criminal record check, first aid, CPR and NVCI will be required
