The Opportunity

The UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as a Casual Educational Assistant (EA). This opening is specifically for a position on our EA Supply List. This is a 10-month position (September to June) to start as soon as possible.

In this role, you will provide temporary and/or short-term coverage for EA absences in both elementary and secondary English and French Immersion Programs.

Location

All geographical areas of the Board including North Wellington, Centre Wellington, East Wellington, Guelph, Orangeville, Dufferin County and Shelburne. Casual Supply EAs may select specified areas in which they would like to work.

Hours of Work / FTE

There is no guaranteed hours per week as this is a casual position. A casual employee with full availability could work full time (1.0 FTE; 32.5 hours per week) depending on need.

As a member of the EA Supply List, you may apply for vacant permanent or temporary positions as they arise, with possible consideration over external applicants.

Rate of Pay / Salary Range

$30.92 per hour; wage rate effective September 1, 2025, plus applicable vacation pay, in accordance with the Employment Standards Act.

Board Information: 10 months; ESSP-DECE Union

Reporting to the school Principal, the successful candidate must be willing and able to work with students who have diverse needs.

Responsibilities
  • Educational Assistants work with students with diverse needs, providing support for behaviour, safety, medical and physical needs. Duties may include lifting, toileting, positioning and transferring students and equipment, and application of BMS. Work may be solo or in groups.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Experience

Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Educational Assistant Diploma, or a combination of formal education (child development and/or special education fields) and work experience deemed equivalent by the Board
  • Post-Secondary Degree in a related field
  • Valid Behaviour Management Systems certification
  • Proven ability and recent experience in working with students with special needs; school-based experience is an asset
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder Training
  • Lifting/Positioning Training
  • Flexibility, patience, empathy and ability to work with students with complex needs, classroom teachers, parents and administration
  • Ability to perform essential physical duties (lifting, positioning, transferring) and use of BMS techniques as required
  • Access to reliable transportation and ability to attend specific schools
