Position Summary

The Companion works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or designee and provides direct observation and companionship to clients in their home.

Qualifications
  • Be eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Demonstrate ability to read, write, follow a written Aide Care Plan, and document tasks performed.
  • Be self-directed and work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate dependability, tact, patience, and the ability to follow instructions.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Show compassion and empathy toward the elderly, sick, and disabled.
  • Reside in or around Kelowna.
Essential Functions/Areas Of Accountability
  • Operate within the limitations of the individual assignment.
  • Provide supervision and companionship activities that promote the client’s wellbeing. Note: typically does not involve hands-on care such as bathing and dressing.
  • Attend to the client's requests promptly.
  • Offer companionship, socialization, and light housekeeping services.
  • Assist with food preparation if included in the Aide Care Plan.
  • Follow infection control policies, including proper hand washing techniques.
  • Maintain communication with the Clinical Supervisor and interdisciplinary team (written and verbal).
  • Document care provided and observations accurately as per the Aide Care Plan.
  • Treat clients and families with respect and maintain confidentiality.
  • Accept and fulfill assignments responsibly. Exercise judgment in accepting assignments.
  • Attend required in-service programs per Agency policy.
