Opportunity Carpentry Skilled Maintenance Technician

At Pier 4 our portfolio of multi-family real estate assets is growing and as a result we are looking for an experienced Maintenance Technician with Carpentry skills to join our team in Hamilton / St. Catharines Ontario. The Maintenance Technician with carpentry skills reports to the Maintenance Team Lead and is accountable for preserving the condition of the properties. Requires you to renovate units, constructing, installing, repairing, and maintaining structures and fixtures made of all materials (wood / steel / plaster etc..). trouble shoot, repair, install and apply preventative maintenance techniques.

Responsibilities
  • Own hand and power tools (they are not provided) and work vehicle.
  • Read and interpret drawings, and scopes for unit turns.
  • Measure, cut, and shape wood, plastic, and other materials.
  • Construct frameworks, including walls, floors, and doorframes.
  • Install features and fixtures such as windows, doors, cabinetry, lights and drywall.
  • Ensure structures are level, square and securely assembled
  • Inspect and replace damaged framework or other structures and fixtures required.
  • Install subflooring, Vinyl flooring and LVT.
  • Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Collaborate with all team members in a professional manner
  • Be able to work alone at times and complete projects
  • Collaborate with 3rd party construction professionals such as electricians, plumbers, and contractors when necessary.
  • Ensure all projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Maintain a clean and safe job site.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance work orders as assigned.
  • Repairing and renovating vacant / occupied units and common areas.
  • Performing minor electrical and plumbing work as assigned (examples : lighting replacement, replacing toilets).
  • Basic understanding of all applicable laws, legislation and rights concerning residents / landlord relations.
  • Familiar with the emergency operation of electrical, elevator, boiler, fire panel and safety systems, mechanical systems, sprinkler and timer systems.
  • Available for on-call duties, evenings and weekends. Hours may change based on operational needs.
  • Must be able to handle emergencies occurring after regular office hours.
  • Willing to travel to / among various locations within Hamilton Ontario.
Education, Experience and Qualifications
  • Proven relevant carpentry skills.
  • Strong knowledge of carpentry techniques and methods.
  • Proficient in using hand and power tools.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills required.
  • Ability to problem-solve, multi-task and remain detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Ontario G drivers license in good standing (clean drivers abstract)
  • Eligible to work in Canada (will be subject to a criminal background check).
  • High School Diploma and 5+ years of work-related experience.
  • Previous experience in residential maintenance / renovation field.
  • WHMIS training, knowledge of applicable legislation respecting residential tenancies in Ontario and the rights and obligations of Landlords and Tenants an asset.
