Position Summary

Under the direction of the Civil Superintendent, the Lead Hand is responsible as the lead member of the crew in the absence of the Foreperson and is required to manage the production and efficiency of the crew. The Lead Hand assists the Foreperson with daily organization and control of labour, equipment and materials to ensure the delivery of a high standard of HSE, quality and productivity is maintained by the crew.

NAC is currently seeing a Carpenter/Formsetter Lead hand, for various Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant projects initially at our Lakeshore WWTP in Innisfil, ON. Furnished accommodations provided to qualified non-local candidates.

Job Description

  • Lead the daily activities of construction employees
  • On a daily basis, ensure each of your crew members know the production and cost code expectations for the tasks at hand
  • Encourage and promote open communication and trust with the workforce; lead by example in the assigned work. Provide regular direction to your crew
  • Build, layout and execute wooden forms and advanced formwork systems as required, according to specifications with the ability to make calculations depending on grades
  • Ensure forms are properly designed and on grade to meet construction specifications for the project
  • Use of levels and measuring tapes in the use of setting forms to grade with minimal supervision
  • Construct chutes, forms and align form panels for pouring concrete
  • Fill form with concrete material, compact with tamper/compactor to required grade
  • Monitor job progress and provide regular progress reporting to supervisor
  • Plan, monitor, and maintain proper use of hand tools
  • Knowledgeable and aware of the required quality of installations; direct and monitor quality; report on issues
  • Responsible for the organization & cleanliness of work area, materials storage and tool cribs
  • Actively support NAC'S Health, Safety, and Environment policies and procedures as per the roles and responsibilities within the HSE Manual



Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience working with various types of formwork in heavy construction
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, drawings, sketches and specification to determine work activities
  • Must have advanced formwork experience (Doka or Logo form systems are an asset)
  • Experience with walls up to 5 meters
  • Experience with shoring at 5 meters high
  • Concrete pouring experience and flat concrete finishing experience is an asset
  • Knowledge of safe operation of tools
  • Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures
  • Valid WHMIS, Health and Safety Awareness Training for Workers and Working at Heights certificates are required
