Job description
Overview

We are actively seeking a Captain to join the Ocean Navigation team. The role involves maintaining the vessel and conducting towing maneuvers in ports, including docking and undocking, as well as towing maneuvers ashore aboard the tugs of the Ocean Group fleet.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a crew and ensure that maneuvers are performed correctly.
  • Ensure that the vessel and crew have the necessary certifications for the area of operation.
  • Ensure the proper management of the vessel (crew, equipment, administration).
  • Ensure vessel navigability in all conditions.
  • Assist the Chief Mechanic in validating repair and modification lists.
  • Inspect material, structure and equipment according to the SINEX maintenance program.
  • Apply and audit the company’s SMS system.
  • Operate vessels in accordance with company and industry-accepted practices.
  • Participate in a variety of professional development courses and assist in the development of training courses.
  • Support the Ocean Maritime Expertise Center (OMEC) on specific issues (standardizing documentation, improving the SMS and various procedures related to the SMS).
  • Participate and support the activities of the Health, Safety and Environment Management System.
Ideal Candidate / Qualifications
  • Master 3000 Gross Tonnage Certificate
  • Demonstrated mastery, autonomy at work (knowledge, interpersonal skills, know-how) and positive leadership
  • Marine medical certificate
  • Following certifications:
    • TC STCW Basic Safety [STCW-BS]
    • TC MED Ability to operate lifeboats and rescue boats other than fast rescue boats [PSC]
    • TC MED Advanced firefighting techniques [AFF]
    • TC Marine Basic First Aid [MBFA]
    • Restricted radio operator’s certificate
    • Advanced Training for Ships Operating in Polar Waters
  • Knowledge of quality systems with ISM standards (SMS)
  • Driver’s license class 5
  • Languages: Advanced level in French or English, written and spoken
