Position Description
As a Business Development Representative – Commercial HVAC, your extensive industry experience positions you as a seasoned professional in crafting, identifying, and conducting sales within the commercial HVAC landscape.
Operating from a home-based office in Ottawa or Eastern Canada, you will direct the promotion, sales, and engineering design support of our client’s HVAC solutions for commercial use, working closely with their local Distribution Partner.
- Collaborate with consulting engineers, developers, and contractors to endorse and assist in the design of commercial HVAC solutions, aiming to generate mechanical design specifications for their products.
- Nurture and establish lasting, valuable relationships with consulting engineers, contractors, property owners, and developers to ensure their endorsement of their products.
- Partner with our client’s distributor and their staff to promote the product line in the designated region.
- Regularly meet with their distributor to evaluate market support needs.
- Organize and present seminars focused on their products, usage, selection, and design tools to demonstrate system advantages, in collaboration with their distribution partner.
- Serve as an engineering resource to support the sales channel, maintain existing accounts, and uncover new business opportunities through client meetings, guidance on system design, attending sales pitches, and other initiatives to increase system design volume utilizing our client’s products.
- Enhance market knowledge of their products and industry expertise by effectively communicating features and benefits.
- Provide the Head of Commercial Business with weekly client visit plans, customer meeting schedules, and follow-up action plans.
- Report on business intelligence, including market activities, trends, project pricing, sales pipeline, and project/quotation status within the territory.
- Submit sales status reports, including activity updates, deals, follow-ups, and progress towards targets.
- Secure and grow sales through professional interactions with current and prospective clients.
- Understand and manage customer requirements, engaging with clients to anticipate and meet their needs.
- Report sales or service opportunities, customer concerns, and suggestions.
- Identify and resolve customer issues, proposing preventive actions.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to meet customer project needs.
- Respond promptly and professionally to RFQs and RFIs.
- Maintain records of customer interactions and contact information as needed.
- Provide technical support to the sales team as required.
- Participate in trade shows, conferences, and marketing events.
- Stay informed about client information, future plans, and payment performance, sharing relevant data with departments as needed.
Experience
- A minimum of 10 years in a sales engineer role focusing on commercial applied/engineered HVAC products, with a solid understanding of mechanical HVAC system design. Familiarity with VRF technology is a plus.
- Existing connections within the HVAC community in Ottawa and/or Eastern Ontario.
Qualifications
- Proven ability to develop and assist consulting engineers with mechanical HVAC building design based on equipment supply.
- A strong business development instinct and the ability to deliver persuasive training presentations on sales, product features, benefits, and system design.
- Excellent negotiation, persuasion, and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Preferred member of PEO.
- Membership in ASHRAE and LEED certification are advantageous.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering. A P.Eng designation in ON is preferred.
