About the Company
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Onsite Bookkeeper to join our client's team in the Ottawa region. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in bookkeeping with at least 3 years of experience in a legal environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining the financial records of our client's law firm, ensuring compliance with legal accounting standards, and providing general bookkeeping support to the legal team.
About the Role
- Accounts Payable & Receivable: Manage and process client invoices, vendor bills, and payments, ensuring accuracy and timely transactions.
- Trust Accounting: Maintain accurate trust account records, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical requirements regarding client funds.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, profit & loss statements, and cash flow reports.
- Bank Reconciliation: Reconcile bank accounts and credit card statements regularly to ensure financial accuracy.
- General Ledger Management: Maintain the general ledger by posting journal entries and adjusting accounts as necessary.
- Payroll: Process payroll for staff, ensuring compliance with tax regulations and employment standards.
- Tax Compliance: Assist with the preparation and filing of tax returns, including HST and payroll taxes, while ensuring adherence to legal deadlines.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and files in compliance with legal industry standards and firm policies.
- Client Interaction: Provide financial reports and updates to clients, as required, and address any questions regarding their billing or accounts.

What You Bring
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of bookkeeping experience in a legal environment, with a solid understanding of legal accounting practices.
- Education: Post-secondary education in accounting, bookkeeping, or a related field.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software, particularly those used in legal practice. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail with the ability to spot discrepancies and ensure the accuracy of financial records.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to liaise effectively with legal professionals, clients, and vendors.
- Organization: Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with the Law Society of Ontario's Trust Accounting Rules and other applicable regulations in legal bookkeeping
