About the job Bilingual z/OS System Programmer. Software International (SI) supplies technical talent to a variety of clients ranging from Fortune 100/500/1000 companies to small and mid-sized organizations in Canada/US. We currently have a 12 month renewable contract as a z/OS Systems Programmer with our large global infrastructure client. This could be an indefinite contract or move into a permanent role.

Rate: $110 - $130/hr + C2C - depending on overall experience

Responsibilities
- Primary z/OS Support for IBM commercial mainframe account; install and maintain Mainframe z/OS and related ISVs, perform problem determination and resolution.
- Participate in Disaster Recovery tests and on-call rotation; may require weekend/evening work in a fast-paced environment.
- Provide services in a customer, multi-vendor, multi-protocol complex network/systems environment; interact with customer, vendors and management to ensure high level of customer satisfaction.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for z/OS Operating Systems Q&A; identify and resolve complex problems related to product/service installation, update, configuration, operations, performance, or other IT aspects.
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of technical solutions and management tools; guide functional objectives or technologies; influence individuals outside the department as needed.
- Install and support z/OS components, system utilities (SMP/E, ITSO), and JCL/JES processes; work with ISVs and user exits; apply user mods and tests for z/OS.
- Work with DFSMS, DFDSS, IDCAMS, IEBGENER and other system utilities; participate in problem/change management and demonstrate understanding of sysplex concepts.
- Support multiple accounts and a large number of ISVs/LPARs; coordinate with vendors (IBM and others) for PD and product questions.
Qualifications
- Extensive z/OS knowledge with hands-on experience in installation, customization, testing and implementation of ISV software; strong knowledge of Assembler language and user exits.
- Proficiency with z/OS system programming tools: SMP/E, ACF2, IO Gen, TSO/ISPF, JES2/JES3, HCD, and system utilities; strong DFSMS understanding from an MVS perspective.
- Experience with problem determination, change management (eESM experience is an asset), and familiarity with sysplex concepts.
- Excellent verbal and written communication in English and French; ability to work in a virtual team and across locations; willingness to work non-standard hours as required.
- Adaptability to client change management processes and ability to collaborate with peers across the country.
