Serve as representative of the Baffinland Iron Mines Corporation (Baffinland or BIM) in Arctic Bay. Reporting to the Northern Affairs Manager in Iqaluit to assist in providing information to the community, conducting various community meetings, assist in developing and coordinating skills/training programs, supporting recruitment programs, assist in implementing commitments as outlined in the IIBA and Project Certificate and various other tasks and responsibilities as required.

*This job is based out of Arctic Bay, Nunavut, and it is not a Fly-in/Fly-out position.

Main Accountabilities
  • Working with FIFO's.
  • BIM Representative in the community.
  • Supporting potential candidates to apply for training programs offered at Baffinland (Morrisburg, Apprenticeship and Work Readiness Program).
  • Participate in community meetings to provide updates on Baffinland activities.
  • Assist in the development of various presentations within the company.
  • Assist in the preparation of meetings in the community with Baffinland.
  • As required, translating and Support-interpreting service to the Baffinland staff and management
  • Communication with the citizens of the community, community groups, and businesses.
  • Must be able to take minutes at meetings and have them typed and formatted in a professional manner.
  • Providing support to Baffinland training initiatives conducted within Baffinland.
  • Support recruitment initiatives conducted by both Baffinland and its Contractors.
  • Providing feedback to Management about issues/concerns that are raised in the community.
  • Prepare weekly reports to Northern Affairs Manager.
  • Provide support to employees of Baffinland and their contractors, at the community level.

Other duties as assigned.

Main Qualifications
  • Proven ability to communicate with key stakeholders including community members, Inuit Associations and government agencies
  • Ability to meet deadlines and complete tasks on a timely basis
  • NCLA Beneficiary, with a thorough knowledge of Inuit Culture is an asset
  • Must be computer literate, knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and email programs
  • Must be fluent in Inuktitut and EnglishProven ability to work independently and in a professional manner
  • Must know how to read and write syllabics.
  • Proven ability to communicate with key stakeholders including community members, Inuit Associations and government agencies.
  • Must have good people skills.
