Job description
Overview

The Institute of Communication, Culture, Information and Technology (ICCIT) at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in Organizational Studies. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in a field such as organizational communication, business administration, organization studies, organizational behaviour, or related disciplines, with a clearly demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths. Candidates will have an established international reputation and will be expected to sustain and lead innovative and independent research, and to maintain an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.

We are interested in scholars who engage in research on organizational design in platform-oriented organizations, leadership and strategic change, ethical and values-centered management, or decision-making in digitally driven environments. We are particularly interested in scholars who embrace a technology-in-society approach to organization studies. We also welcome applicants with a focus on the relationships among digital media, culture, technology, and organizational processes, who examine how emerging technologies (AI for example) are created, interpreted, and deployed within organizational structures. We encourage applicants from a wide range of humanistic, social scientific and critical perspectives and methodologies including Indigenous ontologies, queer, feminist and Black technoscience.

Responsibilities
  • Support current course offerings by teaching core undergraduate classes in ICCITs Digital Enterprise Management (DEM) program. Core DEM courses include Organizational Studies I and Organizational Studies II as well as Enterprise Risk Management, Business Research Methods, E-Business Strategies, and Communicating in and Between Organizations.
  • Affiliation with the University of Toronto Mississauga and graduate home at the Institute for Management and Innovation (IMI).
  • Demonstrate research excellence through sustained high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals, a research statement, books, conference presentations, awards, and strong referee endorsements.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence through the teaching dossier, required materials, and strong letters of reference.
  • Contribute to equity, diversity, and inclusion in teaching and service; participate in mentoring and inclusive pedagogy initiatives as part of the application materials.
Qualifications
  • PhD in a relevant field (e.g., organizational communication, business administration, organization studies, organizational behaviour) with a demonstrated record of research and teaching excellence.
  • Established international reputation and ability to sustain an innovative, externally funded research program.
  • Alignment with ICCITs strengths and a technology-in-society approach to organization studies.
  • Ability to teach core DEM courses and contribute to graduate supervision and program development.
Application process and materials
  • Applicants must submit a cover letter; a current curriculum vitae; a research statement outlining current and future research interests; one recent publication; a diversity statement, a teaching dossier including a teaching statement, a list of courses taught, sample syllabi, and a course evaluation data summary; and an EDI statement (as outlined above).
  • Applicants must provide the name and contact information of three references. The University of Toronto's recruiting tool will automatically solicit and collect letters of reference from each referee within 48 hours after an application is submitted. Letters of recommendation should be addressed to Professor Brett Caraway, Acting ICCIT Director. More details on the automatic reference letter collection, including timelines, are available in the candidate FAQ.
  • Submission guidelines are at http://uoft.me/how-to-apply. CV and cover letter should be uploaded into dedicated fields with the naming convention LastnameFirstname_CV.pdf, LastnameFirstname_Writing.pdf, etc., and additional materials should be combined in PDF/MS Word format.
  • All application materials, including recent reference letters, must be received by September 30, 2025.
Equity, diversity, and inclusion

UTM is committed to diversity and inclusion. We especially welcome applications from candidates who identify as Indigenous, Black, or racially visible (persons of color), and who have experience working with diverse groups or students.
