The Associate Nurse Manager reports to the Director of Care and is responsible for the overall provision of care and services to residents, coordination of the quality management program and acts as a resource and coach to staff in various clinical areas as outlined in the position summary. In conjunction with the Nurse Manager, the Director of Care and Staff Development Coordinator, ensures compliance with legislative requirements (MOLTC and CNO) and acts as a coach to the nursing staff to ensure best practices are followed.

Responsibilities
  • Provides direction to the nursing team in all aspects of resident care, and takes on the role of “In Charge” in the absence of DOC, Executive Director, and/or Nurse Manager.
  • Supervises and monitors staff performance and resident routines and activities.
  • Conducts Employee Performance Reviews.
  • Assists with the recruitment, retention and termination of nursing employees.
  • Conducts performance management for nursing employees.
  • Adheres to all relevant legislation.
  • Adheres to the collective agreement.
  • Conducts an in-depth investigation as required.
  • Monitors supply budgets to ensure that these are being effectively managed.
  • Participates in the Quality Improvement Plan and progress report.
  • Assists with the evaluation of all resident programs and services for relevance, quality, and effectiveness.
  • Identifies potential risks.
  • Required to understand the nature and meaning of quality indicators.
  • Other duties as assigned and or indicated in the Job Task Inventory.
Qualifications
  • Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse or a Registered Practical Nurse registered with a regulatory authority in a Canadian jurisdiction, other than Ontario, and holds in that jurisdiction the equivalent of a certificate of registration authorizing independent practice in Ontario as of right exemption Bill 60.
  • Comprehensive Knowledge of evidence-based clinical practices.
  • Comprehensive Knowledge of long-term care concepts and philosophies.
  • Excellent Interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Previous managerial experience in a long-term care setting is an asset.
  • Contributes to Policy and program development.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Knowledge of RAI-MDS – AIS certified, if not must be completed successfully within one (1) year of being hired.
  • To show evidence of being focused on people’s feelings when interacting and knowing how to turn a task into positive social interaction.
  • To undertake and meet all legal requirements within a context of promoting individuals’ rights and measuring/reducing elements of risk.
  • Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.
  • As a condition of employment, candidates are required to submit documented results of TB testing (within the last six months or within 14 days upon hire) or a chest X-ray (within the last year), as per Public Health requirements.
  • Two supervisory references required.
  • Provide proof of all required vaccines. The Employer strongly recommends to “stay up to date” with the recommended vaccines. Vaccination requirements are subject to changes as determined by the Employer.
  • French speaking an asset.
