Associate Criminal Defense Lawyer (Ottawa)

Our client, a leading criminal defense firm with multiple offices across Canada, is seeking a highly organized and motivated Associate Criminal Defense Lawyer with at least 2+ years of experience. The ideal candidate will have trial experience and be capable of managing cases from intake through to trial. This position is available at their Ottawa offices.

Your new role

In this role, your responsibilities will include providing legal counsel and guidance to clients. You will review disclosure, attend daily courts for remands, and schedule pre-trials and judicial pre-trials. Additionally, you will conduct legal research and analysis on various legal issues, draft legal documents such as pleadings, motions, briefs, and contracts, and maintain accurate and up-to-date case files.

What you will need to succeed

To qualify for this role, candidates must hold a license to practice law in Ontario and be in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario. Candidates should have two to five years of experience in criminal law, with experience in impaired driving cases being an asset. Strong advocacy and courtroom skills are essential, along with a thorough understanding and expertise in criminal defense matters, including charges, trials, and pleas. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities are also required.
