Assistant Yard Supervisor - Strathroy

You oversee all yard activities, including managing yard employees, equipment, vehicles, deliveries, and housekeeping. Qualifications and Skills:

The ideal candidate demonstrates exceptional customer service and strong leadership skills, with the ability to build trusting and credible relationships. They can effectively train, motivate, and delegate to staff while influencing teams to achieve shared goals. They are skilled in planning, prioritizing, organizing, and executing tasks, and possess strong coping and resilience skills in a fast-paced environment. Clear and effective verbal and written communication is essential, along with the ability to support open and effective upward and downward communication.

The Assistant Yard Supervisor will support the Yard Supervisor in overseeing daily operations within the lumber yard.

  • Assist in overseeing yard staff, including laborers, forklift operators, and loaders.
  • Coordinate daily work schedules and assignments to ensure efficient yard operations.
  • Monitor yard activities to ensure compliance with safety protocols and operational procedures.
  • Address and resolve any operational issues or staff concerns promptly.
Inventory Management:
  • Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records of lumber and other building materials.
  • Conduct regular inventory counts and report discrepancies to the Yard Supervisor.
  • Ensure proper storage and organization of materials to optimize space and accessibility.
  • Assist in managing incoming and outgoing shipments, including verifying orders and documentation.
Customer Service:
  • Provide excellent customer service by assisting customers with their inquiries and orders.
  • Ensure timely and accurate fulfillment of customer orders.
  • Address customer complaints or issues in a professional and courteous manner.
Safety and Compliance:
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and report any hazards or violations.
  • Ensure that all staff are trained on safety protocols and proper equipment usage.
Training and Development:
  • Assist in training new yard staff on operational procedures, equipment use, and safety practices.
  • Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for yard employees.
  • Monitor staff performance and provide feedback to the Yard Supervisor.
Equipment Maintenance:
  • Assist in overseeing the maintenance and repair of yard equipment, including forklifts and loaders.
  • Ensure that equipment is used properly and safely.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to the Yard Supervisor.
Operational Efficiency:
  • Identify opportunities to improve yard operations and implement best practices.
  • Assist in developing and implementing operational procedures to enhance productivity.
  • Monitor and evaluate yard performance metrics and suggest improvements.
Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of lumber and building materials.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Strong leadership and communication abilities.
  • Ability to operate yard equipment, including forklifts
