A leading Canadian university in Saskatchewan seeks an Assistant Professor for a 2-Year Limited Term position focused on Devised Performance and Theatre Creation. The Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance at the University of Regina invites applications for a 2‑Year Limited Term position in Directing and Devising in the Department of Theatre. The Department launched a BFA in Devised Performance and Theatre Creation (the only program of its kind in Western Canada) and a BA in Drama and Theatre Studies in 2022. In this vibrant new BFA program, the successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating large and small devised projects and directing departmental productions. They may also teach acting and may have the opportunity to teach other specialised areas of theatre performance and production.
We seek a candidate who demonstrates expertise in and has a dynamic and engaged record of theatre/performance‑creation, possesses a terminal degree (or educational equivalent) and demonstrates significant creative‑critical output at the professional/peer‑reviewed level. Preference will be given to those with a strong record of successful teaching experience at the post‑secondary level and an active artistic practice. The successful candidate must also be able to demonstrate substantial engagement with devising/collective creation, non‑traditional theatre creation practices and possess the ability to teach across the curriculum. Candidates should have significant experience directing large mainstage productions, intimate black‑box studio shows, site‑specific and/or off‑site projects, and professional or successful teaching experience in physical theatre, improvisation, musical theatre, digital/multimedia/composition, site‑specific theatre, dramaturgy and new play creation. Willingness to teach and supervise graduate students is required.
