Job description
Overview

The McGill University Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Allergy, Clinical Immunology, and Dermatology invites applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical). The professorial rank will be determined by the candidates’ qualifications and experience. This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

About the Department

The Division of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology is part of the Department of Pediatrics within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. The division covers outpatient and inpatient care, with a focus on multidisciplinary, high-quality patient care and education. The Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH) is a major teaching hospital affiliated with the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC).

Job Duties

The successful candidate will participate in the academic activities of the Department of Pediatrics and be an active member of the Division of Allergy and Immunology at MCH/MUHC. Expectations include:

  • Share on-call duties equally with other division members.
  • For academic clinicians: cover inpatient duties 8-12 weeks per year and conduct 2-3 half-day outpatient clinics per week.
  • For clinician-scientists: cover inpatient duties 6-8 weeks per year and conduct a minimum of one half-day outpatient clinic weekly.
  • Participate in all clinical and administrative division meetings.
  • If appointed as a clinician-scientist, join RI-MUHC and contribute to one of its research programs; commit 50-75% of time to research and seek external funding as applicable.
  • Engage in research and academic activities; supervise trainees; contribute to pediatric allergy/immunology education and interdisciplinary education for nurses and nurse practitioners.
  • Demonstrate ability to initiate, conduct, and manage a research program (clinician-scientist) and present a research plan with startup needs.
  • Potentially obtain external operating grants; access RI-MUHC and McGill pediatric department research infrastructure.
  • Contribute to teaching, supervision of students and residents, and service on academic/administrative committees; uphold equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Qualifications and Education Requirements

Candidates must:

  • Hold an MD degree (or equivalent) and have postgraduate clinical training in Pediatrics.
  • Completed specialty training in Pediatric Allergy and Immunology with certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent).
  • Clinician-scientist: minimum 2 years of dedicated research training; a postgraduate degree (e.g., MSc or PhD) is an asset.
  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire language skills to practice in Quebec; ability to interact with patients, families, and health professionals in English and French.
