Qualifications

About the Role

The Assistant Controller will play a hands-on role in supporting the Controller with the day-to-day management of the company’s financial operations and reporting. This position is actively involved in preparing financial statements, maintaining accurate records, supporting budgeting and forecasting and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal teams to resolve issues, improve processes and ensure timely, accurate financial information across the organization. This role is perfect for someone who is ready to grow their career and take on more responsibilities within a high-performing team.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
  • Perform general ledger activities including journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Analyze financial results, identifying trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
  • Assist with internal and external audit by preparing required documentation and explanations.
  • Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal financial regulations.
  • Support the implementation, monitoring and maintenance of financial controls and procedures.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by the Controller.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in full cycle accounting
  • Post secondary education in accounting or finance is preferred
  • Experience with paperless accounting processes is an asset
  • A strong understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
  • Skilled in MS Office Suite
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Good multitasking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and deliver results with minimal supervision
  • Detail oriented with a strong focus on accuracy
  • An analytical mindset with strong numerical skills
