General purpose

Reporting to the Manager, Systems Management, the Analyst III plays a key role in designing, operating, and improving the University’s enterprise data protection and storage infrastructure. The role has a primary focus on supporting the Rubrik backup platform and enterprise‑scale unstructured storage services, working closely with a Senior Analyst to plan, implement, and maintain these critical solutions.

Due to the nature of data protection, this position requires a strong background in Windows and Linux server administration, as backups span VMware virtual machines, databases, and file systems. While the primary emphasis is on backup and recovery, the Analyst III will also contribute to Managed Servers operations, including provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management, as part of a collaborative team. Additional responsibilities include monitoring, automation, and supporting compliance with data protection policies.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary operational support lead for the University’s Rubrik backup platform, including configuration, backup SLA management, troubleshooting, and recovery workflows.
  • Collaborate with a Senior Analyst on the design, capacity planning, modernization, and long‑term roadmap of storage and backup services.
  • Manage and maintain VM, database, and file‑level backups across diverse workloads.
  • Support the Cohesity data platform including unstructured storage, off‑site data protection, and associated backup/restore operations.
  • Monitor backup success, proactively remediate issues, and conduct root‑cause analysis for failures.
  • Contribute to data protection policy enforcement, retention strategies, and compliance requirements.
  • Participate in the architecture, provisioning, monitoring, and lifecycle management of enterprise servers (Windows Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux).
  • Support infrastructure hosted on VMware vSphere and associated storage and network components.
  • Assist with incident, problem, and change management processes.
  • Automate operational tasks using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell, or Bash.
  • Support evaluation, piloting, and implementation of new technologies.
  • Communicate clearly with clients and technical teams regarding server and data protection needs.
  • Contribute to project planning, requirements gathering, and execution.
  • Participate in after‑hours maintenance windows when required.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Technology or a combination of education and related experience.
  • 3+ years of experience with enterprise storage or backup administration, ideally at scale.
  • Hands‑on experience with enterprise backup platforms (e.g., Rubrik, Commvault, Veeam).
  • Experience with enterprise storage technologies (NAS, SAN, replication, snapshots).
  • Strong understanding of virtualization (VMware) and its integration with storage and backup solutions.
  • Experience administering Windows Server and/or Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems.
  • Familiarity with automation/scripting for operational workflows (Ansible, Bash, PowerShell, Python).
  • Strong analytical skills, communication skills, and the ability to collaborate across technical teams.
Preferred qualifications include
  • rik Data Protection Platform in production environments.
  • Experience with Enterprise Scale Unstructured Storage Platforms.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools (Nagios, Prometheus, ELK, etc.).
  • Knowledge of cloud‑based backup/storage integrations (Microsoft Azure, AWS).
  • Understanding of data protection best practices, cyber‑resilience, and CIS benchmarks.
  • Experience with server hardware platforms (Dell, Cisco UCS) and data‑centre networking concepts.
  • Industry certifications (VMware, Red Hat, Rubrik, Cohesity, Azure, ITIL).
