Job summary

A community organization in Ottawa is seeking an Afterschool Program Instructor to supervise and engage school-age children in a safe and enriching environment. Responsibilities include planning activities, assisting with homework, and maintaining communication with families. Job description

The Afterschool Program Instructor is responsible for supervising and engaging school‑age children in a safe, supportive, and enriching environment. This role includes planning and leading activities, supporting academic work, fostering positive behavior, and maintaining strong communication with students, families, and staff.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Works directly with an assigned group of children as the group’s leader.
  • Follows a daily schedule.
  • Actively plans and participates in activities.
  • Assists with homework for K‑6th grade.
  • Maintains a positive working relationship with a co‑counselor.
  • Assists administrators with activities, including maintaining control, safety, and the health of the participants.
  • Handles child‑to‑child problems.
  • Arrives at the afternoon program no later than 3 pm Monday through Thursday and 1:30 pm on Friday.
  • Maintains a professional attitude and loyalty to the program at all times.
  • Incorporates Jewish values and ethics and provides safety in all activities.
  • Abides by all policies, standards, and objectives of the Soloway JCC and the After‑School Program.
Hours

Program runs 3 hours a day, starting as early as 3 pm Monday through Thursday and, during winter months, 1:30 pm to 5 pm on Friday.

Program runs Monday–Friday on regular school days and also when school is out by offering mini camps from 8:30 am to 4 pm.
