Growcer Inc. • Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Full‑Time Internal Operations Department
9 Month Contract
Growcer is the world’s largest provider of indoor modular vertical farm solutions working with communities and organizations across North America. Recently we acquired Freight Farms bringing together two category leaders to expand our footprint, deepen our expertise, and strengthen the support network available to our customers.
By partnering with municipalities, First Nation and Indigenous communities, Tribal Nations and other community organizations in Canada and the USA we empower year‑round sustainable food production and strengthen food sovereignty. To date we have launched more than 120 Growcer projects. Our holistic approach includes planning solutions, food infrastructure, commissioning support, training programs, capacity‑building programs (such as our popular Rootcamp) and ongoing support services enabling communities to achieve lasting impact. Growcer’s work has been recognized with awards including Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas and the Entrepreneurs Organization and was featured on Season 13 of CBC’s Dragons Den.
Growcer is looking for a driven individual with a self‑starter attitude as the company enters the next phase of rapid growth and scales across North America. Effective Growcer employees are tenacious, enjoy working in a fast‑paced environment and are comfortable working on big‑picture challenges with lots of autonomy. All positions and work responsibilities tie back to our mission of empowering people to feed the world more sustainably, and applicants who are laser‑focused on contributing to the creation of a better food system will find a workplace and team that shares their vision for sustainable agriculture.
The Growcer team acknowledges that we work with many Territories and Treaty areas and we are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are with us today, those who have gone before us and the youth that inspire us.
We recognize the land and the benefits it provides all of us as an act of Reconciliation as recommended by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action and gratitude to those whose territory we reside on, work on or are visiting.
Growcer is committed to progressing the path of Reconciliation in a deeply meaningful way in partnership with Indigenous and First Nations Peoples and is dedicated to fulfilling our role and responsibilities in this regard.
Your primary responsibility will be to support day‑to‑day finance operations for the company and its subsidiaries – owning accounts payable/receivable, bank and credit card reconciliations and employee expense processing. Reporting directly to the Finance Manager and working closely with the Intermediate Company Accountant, this role will play a vital role within the organization and advance Growcer’s financial efficiency.
As the finance team is small, the expectation of this role will be to support the Growcer team in a variety of tasks relating to finance, responding to financial requests from across the organization and general administration. This individual must be meticulous with a strong attention to detail to underpin the finance function during a phase of accelerated growth for the organization. You will thrive in this role if you enjoy performing a wide range of duties, are willing to learn and grow within this role and are comfortable being a team member who will be relied upon to manage and process information and transactions efficiently and accurately.
