Accounting Technician

Location: Iron Springs, Homelot Office

Employment Type: Permanent, Full Time (35-40 hours/week)

Reports to: Financial Controller

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Technician to manage accounts receivable and provide vital operational support. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial records including specialized cattle sales and maintaining timely collections. The successful candidate will handle full-cycle bookkeeping including but not limited to processing monthly payroll and ensuring federal GST compliance for three companies. Additionally, you will oversee rental agreements and provide general administrative support, all while maintaining the highest level of discretion and professional integrity.

Key Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to)
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for multiple companies, including full-cycle bookkeeping.
  • Perform monthly bank and general ledger reconciliations and support month-end and year-end close activities.
  • Process accounts receivable, monitor customer accounts, and follow up to ensure timely payments.
  • Track and maintain detailed records of cattle sales and receivables.
  • Ensure timely entry for month end reporting.
  • Process payroll for all employees accurately and on schedule, with end of month availability required.
  • Prepare and file monthly GST returns and assist with other tax and regulatory filings.
  • Provide general administrative support, including document management and financial correspondence.
  • Draft and maintain rental agreements in accordance with tenancy regulations.
  • Assist with audit preparation and ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial and employee information.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Skills
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks).
  • Strong understanding of payroll systems and general accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office programs.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of Alberta Rental Tenancy Act is an asset.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.

Compensation

We offer a competitive compensation package that reflects your skills, experience, and qualifications with an hourly rate ranging from $25-$35 per hour. Benefits start after completion of the 3-month probationary period and includes health, dental, health spending account, and RRSP matching.
