About The Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accountant to oversee day-to-day accounting functions for a dynamic agriculture business. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and is passionate about accuracy, organization, and providing exceptional service to internal stakeholders. You’ll play a key part in maintaining the financial health of the business and supporting its long-term success.

You’ll work closely with the General Manager and a small, dedicated team, ensuring supplier deadlines are met, processes are streamlined, and financial records are accurate and compliant. This position does not have direct reports.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Bookkeeping

  • Manage full-cycle accounting with a strong understanding of debits, credits, and GAAP principles.
  • Process invoices with attention to supplier programs, early-pay discounts, and volume thresholds.
  • Reconcile month-end reports, supplier statements, and bank accounts.
  • Maintain accurate tracking of AR/AP, ensuring shareholders’ needs are prioritized.
  • Process payments via cheques, EFTs, wires, and occasional credit card transactions.
  • Maintain and update general ledger accounts.
  • Ensure HST/GST compliance and support audit preparation.
  • Support year-end audit and AGM requirements (fiscal year-end: November).

Analysis & Process Improvement

  • Identify and correct discrepancies in invoices and payments.
  • Analyze financial data for accuracy and efficiency.
  • Recommend improvements to move toward more cloud-based, paperless accounting processes.
  • Provide insight into ways to streamline workflows and improve reporting.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Build strong relationships with suppliers, shareholders, and colleagues.
  • Act as a trusted point of contact for financial inquiries and problem resolution.
  • Collaborate with the GM and Board of Directors on financial matters.
  • Handle sensitive financial data with the highest level of confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Experience with high-volume invoicing and payment processing.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel for reporting and reconciliation.
  • Strong attention to detail and exceptional numerical accuracy.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate and resolve issues.
  • Clear and professional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Reliable, ethical, and highly organized.
