About Nu

Nu was founded in 2013 to free people from a bureaucratic, slow and inefficient financial system. Since then, through innovative technology and outstanding customer service, the company has been redefining people's relationships with money across Latin America. With operations in Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia, Nubank is today one of the largest digital banking platforms and technology-leading companies in the world.

Today, Nubank is a global company, with offices in São Paulo (Brazil), Mexico City (Mexico), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Bogotá (Colombia), Durham (United States), and Berlin (Germany). It was founded in 2013 in Sao Paulo, by Colombian David Vélez, and cofounded by Brazilian Cristina Junqueira and American Edward Wible. For more information, visit www.nubank.com.br.

About the team

As Nu continues its global expansion and continues innovating, the risk landscape becomes increasingly complex. While Nubank has developed a strong Risk structure within the 2nd Line of Defence, we are looking to continue strengthening our risk maturity in the 1st Line. The BCO team was therefore created to directly support the various Business Units of Nubank with managing their risks in a proactive manner, with the assumption that the 2nd and 3rd lines of defense do not exist.

This team is also continuously evolving, and BCOs are expected to directly contribute to the development of the BCO structure, by bringing their ideas to the table, and help create "Best in Class" Risk Management in the 1st line of Defense.

About the role

To support the Business Units in achieving their objectives, the BCOs will be expected to balance risk and business priorities. By being hands-on, they will lead by example and support the teams, always keeping in mind the vision that we have established: "To empower the 1st line Nubankers to become proactive Risk Owners, ensuring adherence to standards and protecting the interests of the company and stakeholders".

To do so, the BCOs follow 3 pillars of focus:

  • Processes & Internal Controls: Ensuring that our functions/BUs are managing their risks through thorough understanding of their processes and its control environment, but also by identifying improvement opportunities in how we work. This will in turn drive more efficiency with our various partners across the various lines of Defense and showcase increased maturity.
  • Governance, Risk & Compliance: Ensuring that our functions/BUs are in line with internal and external regulatory and risk requirements. This showcases strong alignment with the various functions leading our internal governance allowing us to focus with more certainty on product and features development.
  • Measuring & Reporting: Ensuring that BCOs have developed appropriate KPIs to facilitate the monitoring of the programs above and validating that functions/BUs are delivering as per the established goals.

As a BCO you will

  • Support/coordinate the business in managing and fulfilling its First Line Risk Management activities (Onboarding process, due diligence, credit and financial analysis on large, corporate and payment institutions, Losses & Risk Events, Internal control management, continuous improvement…)
  • Build relevant governance in a useful and non bureaucratic way
  • Define and rate the internal control & risk environment
  • Proactively identify risk areas and tackle relevant remediation activities
  • Add a risk lens to strategy and product development
  • Drive and complete documentation activities to minimize single point sensitivities and conduct process mapping

What we are looking for

  • Product and/or Non Financial Risk knowledge
  • High level SOX knowledge a plus
  • Hands-on and take ownership where possible
  • Independence and proactivity
  • Ability to build strong relationships with all levels of the organization
  • Quick learner
  • Good communication skills (concise and clear)
  • Wants to improve and challenge the status quo
  • Ability to challenge the various Lines of Defense
  • Health, dental and life insurance
  • Transportation assistance
  • 30 days of paid vacation
  • Equity at Nubank
  • Parking partnership - discounted parking in our office
  • Free bike parking with showers available
  • NuCare - Our mental health and wellness assistance program
  • Extended maternity and paternity Leaves
  • Child care allowance
  • Onsite Health Center - Medical support for every Nubanker in our office
