An overview of this role

As a Senior Compensation Partner, you’ll shape how GitLab designs and manages compensation to support a high-performance, values-driven culture across our global, all-remote team. You’ll translate our company strategy into thoughtful compensation programs that are fair, competitive, and easy to understand, helping GitLab leaders make confident decisions on hiring, promotions, and rewards. Reporting to the VP of Total Rewards and joining the Compensation team, you’ll own key programs like merit and promotion cycles, equity initiatives, and our global job architecture, while advising senior business and People team partners on complex compensation topics. In your first year, you’ll focus on refining our global frameworks, improving processes and tools, and using data and market insights to ensure our programs remain equitable, scalable, and compliant across many countries.

What you’ll do
  • Partner with leaders, People Business Partners, and Finance to align compensation decisions and programs to GitLab’s business goals and values.
  • Provide strategic compensation guidance using data analysis, market benchmarking, and clear recommendations for new hires, promotions, and internal moves.
  • Own and execute key global compensation programs, including merit and promotion cycles and equity processes, ensuring a consistent and transparent team member experience.
  • Maintain, refine, and document GitLab’s job architecture to support organizational design, internal equity, and market competitiveness across a global, remote workforce.
  • Analyze internal and external compensation data to identify trends, gaps, and risks, and propose updates to programs, policies, and practices.
  • Advise on compensation implications of organizational changes, hiring plans, and talent initiatives in partnership with Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, and People Business Partners.
  • Collaborate with Legal and regional partners to support compliance with global compensation regulations and pay practices.
  • Create and deliver clear education, tools, and communications that help leaders and GitLab team members understand and effectively use compensation programs.
What you’ll bring
  • Experience designing and managing global compensation programs, including base pay, bonus, and equity, ideally within high-growth or technology environments.
  • Background advising senior business leaders and People teams on complex compensation topics, with a focus on balancing market competitiveness and internal equity.
  • Experience working in a public company setting, including scaling compensation programs during periods of organizational change and growth.
  • Strong analytical and modeling skills, with the ability to interpret market data, build scenarios, and translate findings into clear recommendations for diverse audiences.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy when working with compensation data, market surveys, and job architecture frameworks.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, with the ability to explain compensation concepts and decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Alignment with GitLab’s values, including operating with integrity and maintaining confidentiality in all compensation matters.
  • Familiarity with HRIS and productivity tools such as Workday, Google Workspace, or similar systems, and openness to leveraging transferable skills from related total rewards disciplines.
About the team

We oversee core processes like base pay structures, equity programs, job architecture, and annual compensation cycles, and are focused on supporting a consistent, transparent compensation philosophy as GitLab scales.
