General Overview :

Intelligent Solutions have been mandated by a leading Insurance company in the UAE to hire a AVP Legal for their team in Abu Dhabi. In this role you will provide strategic legal direction, ensuring compliance with UAE laws and the company’s policies while mitigating risks and protecting organizational interests.

You will play a key role in advising senior management on legal matters, approve policies, and oversee litigation, fraud, and contract management. Additionally, you will direct legal operations to support business growth, regulatory compliance, and risk management while fostering a high-performance culture within the Legal Affairs Department.

Key Responsibilities :

Strategic & Managerial Responsibilities :

  • Advise senior leadership on legal strategies ensuring regulatory compliance, business alignment, and risk mitigation within organizational operations.
  • Develop and execute Legal Affairs Department’s strategic initiatives supporting corporate objectives, regulatory requirements, and risk management frameworks.
  • Authorize policies, procedures, and governance models ensuring adherence to UAE legal frameworks and internal compliance standards.
  • Direct legal risk management strategies to safeguard business interests and promote regulatory adherence across operational functions.

Core Responsibilities :

  • Supervise legal advisory services ensuring corporate, employment, commercial, IT, and IP laws are properly adhered to across business functions.
  • Review and negotiate contracts, agreements, and corporate legal documents ensuring compliance with UAE laws and organizational policies.
  • Handle litigation cases by managing legal firms, preparing documentation, and advising management on risks and potential disputes.
  • Oversee fraud investigation processes, collaborating with relevant departments to detect, prevent, and report fraudulent activities.
  • Represent the company in negotiations, legal proceedings, and regulatory meetings ensuring corporate interests are protected.
  • Ensure compliance with UAE laws by developing and maintaining legal policies, governance frameworks, and regulatory reporting structures.
  • Participate in internal audits, investigations, and compliance reviews ensuring legal and ethical business operations.
  • Liaise with government entities, legal professionals, and external stakeholders to maintain compliance and regulatory relationships.
  • Update leadership on legal developments, legislative changes, and compliance risks impacting business operations and strategic planning.
  • Prepare legal reports, risk assessments, and compliance updates for executive management and board members.

    • Quality & Excellence Management :

  • Establish quality standards within the Legal Affairs Department to ensure efficiency, compliance, and adherence to industry’s best practices.
  • Ensure legal policies align with the best international practices and industry compliance requirements.
  • Implement change management initiatives improving legal operations, efficiency, and service quality.
  • Monitor key performance indicators to drive continuous improvement in legal service delivery and regulatory compliance.

    • People Management Responsibilities :

  • Train and mentor legal department staff to enhance corporate legal knowledge and regulatory compliance expertise.
  • Conduct performance evaluations ensuring professional development and operational excellence within the legal department.
  • Promote recruitment and career development programs focusing on UAE national workforce integration and leadership development.
  • Encourage cross-department collaboration enhancing legal service efficiency and corporate compliance initiatives.

    • Qualifications Required :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law or related field.
  • Master’s degree in Law or related field.
  • Certified UAE Legal Consultant Registration, Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) or equivalent is a plus.

    • Experience Required :

  • Minimum 12+ years of experience in legal affairs, with at least 5 years in leadership roles.
