Job description

Role & Responsibilities

1. Clinical Evaluation & Diagnosis

Assess patients with surgical conditions through history, examination, and investigations.

Diagnose diseases involving the abdomen, gastrointestinal tract, breast, thyroid, skin, and soft tissues.

Decide on surgical versus conservative management.

2. Surgical Responsibilities

• Perform elective and emergency surgeries such as Appendectomy, Hernia repair, Cholecystectomy (gallbladder surgery), Gastrointestinal surgeries, Breast surgeries, Thyroid surgeries, Trauma and emergency surgeries.
• Perform laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgeries.
• Assist in complex or multidisciplinary surgical procedures.

3. Pre‑operative & Post‑operative Care

Evaluate patients for surgical fitness.

Obtain informed consent and explain procedures and risks.

Manage post‑operative recovery, pain control, and wound care.

Monitor for and manage surgical complications.

4. Emergency & Trauma Care

Handle surgical emergencies such as acute abdomen, intestinal obstruction, perforation, and trauma.

Provide on‑call services and emergency surgical interventions.

5. Patient Counseling & Education

Counsel patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and prognosis.

Provide guidance on lifestyle modifications and follow‑up care.

6. Coordination & Teamwork

Work closely with anesthetists, physicians, radiologists, nurses, and ICU teams.

Participate in ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings.

7. Documentation & Medico‑Legal Duties

Maintain accurate patient records, operative notes, and discharge summaries.

Follow hospital policies, ethical guidelines, and legal requirements.

8. Teaching, Research & Professional Development

Teach junior doctors, interns, and nursing staff.

Participate in audits, CMEs, and clinical research.

Keep updated with advances in surgical techniques and technologies.
